I recently posed a question: What is the future of small, rural cemeteries? As communities change, will — or should the expectation be — all survive into the future? And how do those questions stand in contrast to a growing group of interested folks online?

I spoke with experts including Abby Burnett, who has written extensively about Arkansas cemeteries; Randy Ridgway, the leader of a cemetery in Huntsville, Arkansas, and Jessica Leroy, who runs the social media platform Headstone History, for their thoughts.

Tour of Manley today, Memorial Day 2026. Beautiful Day here. I'm amazed at the number of graves that aren't decorated. Seems like there were more in years past. This is the 125 year anniversary. Maybe next year we can have an old-fashioned get-together there.

I didn't realize it until now that Manley now has an address you can plug in.
2342 W Old Limey Road, Nixa, MO. Don't use that for any type of mail though. It's just for location specificity.

New flags were really flying today. Big thanks to Joel for getting that done. I cleaned up the Veteran's Stone and the Noe's granite bench. I added a line to a sign with our FB name. A lot of stones in the cemetery have grass on them. I'd encourage others to take a blower when they visit to knock off dead grass. Next weekend is Memorial Day. There are pre-stamped/addressed envelopes by the entrance if no one's there to collect. Tell others and get on the mailing list too.

Please remember to make a donation to your family cemeteries this year. Get on their mailing list if they have one. Many are in serious need to keep up. Manley trustees are great stewards of what the cemetery receives. Address and some pre-addressed/stamped envelopes are in a box by entrance. Contact a board member or email [email protected] to be put on the mailing list. Pass this on to any others with an interest in Manley. People will be in the gazebo to accept donations and answer questions Memorial Weekend.
