Missionary Support Network

Missionary Support Network Helping ministry leaders and missionaries overcome work stress by providing opportunities to rest, recover, and refocus on their God-given assignments.

Most missionaries lack adequate funds to meet their need for rest and refreshment. We provide funding to proven programs and facilities that help them maintain the health and strength they need to maintain ministry leadership. GOALS FOR TODAY -
Partner with proven programs and facilities to help fund individual ministry leaders and missionaries, couples and families get the rest and recuperation

they need to overcome the stresses faced daily while working in a cross-cultural setting. Missionaries and ministry leaders leave their positions because of burnout from stress and trauma. We help them stay in their positions by giving them opportunities to rest and repair. We are building a portfolio of trusted places that will offer opportunities to not only rest, but talk, walk and pray through areas of stress that need to be relieved. GOALS FOR TOMORROW -
Build and provide a "soft landing" place of our own to come and work through some jet lag, have someone come alongside with a listening heart to pray with them, decompress from some of the issues in their host culture and be walked through some of the changes that may have happened in the first world while they were elsewhere - before they return to their “home” family/church or are able to get into a debriefing program. The big picture is to have a "campground/conference grounds" within 100 miles of LAX as the largest international receiving airport in the area. The goal for this facility would serve as a home base for as long as needed for recovery, until returned to the mission field, or re-established in the US: hosting guests from a few weeks up to a year with regular needs assessments. The target is to offer this service at as low cost as possible or even no cost. YOU CAN GET INVOLVED -
For Today: You can give of your time, talents and/or funds. We are still in the growth and development stages and can use your input. If you have experience in nonprofit board service, business development, social media management, web design, fundraising, etc. we would gladly discuss what you would like to offer. For Tomorrow: Again you can offer time, talents and/or funds and, potentially, goods and equipment needed to develop our own facility. If you have contracting, design, building, facilities management, food service experience, etc. we would like to discuss how you could put some of your expertise into use. We always covet your prayers for wisdom and success in meeting missionaries' and ministry leaders' needs for developing emotional resilience that will keep them working. If you would like more information, sign up for our newsletter, or learn how to donate. Click the message button and we'll get right back to you.

In ministry, the constant pressure of being "on-call" can lead to a tangled knot of stress, poor sleep, and unhealthy eating. When one part of our health unravels, the rest follows.

We believe that true restoration for leaders must be holistic, including the foods we eat, when we eat them, and why we eat them.

During a recent training with the Global Member Care Network, a mentor highlighted that our focus on providing healthful foods for guests is a unique service, setting us apart from other retreat centers. With my background as a certified nutrition coach, I've been encouraged to lean into this part of our mission even more.

What if a few days of intentional rest and healthy food could completely restore a weary leader?

We'd love to hear your thoughts!

Last week a friend introduced me to her sister who has been a missionary in Southeast Asia. Something very traumatic happened while there and she came home very broken.

She carries shame and hurt from what happened to her and won't talk about it.

We realize she needs some spiritually guided professional help, yet we would love to give her a space to be comforted before, during or after.

A story like this can be heartbreaking. Our vision is to have that safe, peaceful place for her and others to Rest, Recover and Refocus to continue on in life not weighted down by pain inflicted during ministry work.

You can help us help others sooner. Join our Prayvine request letters and donate towards acquiring a guest house.

I first learned about the level of unseen support from Neal Pirolo's book "Serving as Senders Today". At the time he wrote, there were 9 support persons needed to back up a soldier.

Missionaries also need the variety of services provided by friends, family, church, sending organization, etc. People in background roles such as; raising and managing resources, maintaining relationships with and for those on the field, training, and engaging in prayer themselves and with others...more

"Always winter, but never Christmas" declared Mr. Tumnus, the faun, in C.S. Lewis' "The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe".

This statement was mentioned in a podcast conversation between two former missionaries who now provide care services. They pointed out how cultural differences affect the rhythms missionaries are accustomed to. Sometimes they are surprised by how their own expectations are interrupted in their work culture.

These two ladies told their experiences navigating differences in which holidays are or are not observed in other countries. When preparing to live overseas, missionaries learn much about the new culture where they are going. Yet, there are things from their home culture they may not always realize they are leaving behind.

Listen in as Amy Young and Katie Brown talk about mixed emotions during the Christmas season. https://globaltrellis.com/episode/13/
