Zacchaeus climbed a tree hoping for a glimpse of Jesus, nothing more.
He didn’t expect a conversation, a calling, or a changed life.
But Jesus stopped right under those branches, looked up, and called him by name.

Zacchaeus wasn’t invisible to Jesus.
He wasn’t too far gone.
He wasn’t beyond reach.

And neither are you.

The same Jesus who saw Zacchaeus sees you; your hunger, your questions, your quiet hopes, your hidden battles. He calls you not because you’ve earned His attention, but because His grace and compassion moves toward people who think they’re out of His line of sight.

Zacchaeus thought he was just observing Jesus.
But Jesus was already pursuing him.

Today, hear this: Jesus sees you.
Jesus knows you.
Jesus is calling you down from whatever “tree” you’ve climbed.
He’s calling you into relationship, restoration, and purpose.

Let us see Jesus.

Welcome to Oasis for September 30, 2026, your mid-week devotional carved out of the rush of your schedule and routine inspired by Jesus and his invitation in Mark 6:31,"Come with me by yourselves to a place where we can be alone, and you can get some rest."

Today's Oasis comes to us from Genesis 9:11, Genesis 22:16-17, Psalm 89:34-36,
Matthew 28:20, and John 14:3.

This is "Vows".

“Create in me a clean heart Oh God, and renew a right spirit within me” - Psalm 51:10

Anything that doesn’t begin with God, isn’t sustained by God, and doesn’t glorify God will eventually bend toward the ways of man. And the ways of man, no matter how polished, applauded, or impressive, always drift toward wickedness, not holiness.

That’s why Psalm 51:10 is more than a verse.
It’s a daily rescue mission for the heart.

There are many voices today claiming to represent Christ, but their fruit reveals something different.
Some build platforms instead of altars.
Some chase attention and “atta boys”instead of souls.
Some perform “wonders” while watching to see who notices.
Some crave applause more than obedience.

And here’s the truth Scripture forces us to face: Anything that steals glory from God is wicked, no matter how spiritual it looks.

When ministry becomes about approval, numbers, or personal validation, it stops being ministry.
It becomes performance.
It becomes self‑promotion.
It becomes man’s way dressed up in churchy language.

David’s prayer is the antidote to every subtle drift of the heart: “Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me”:

This is the prayer that:

• Pulls us back from pride
• Purifies our motives
• Recenters our worship
• Re‑aligns our desires
• Keeps us from becoming performers instead of disciples

And it’s not a prayer we pray once.
It’s a prayer we embrace daily, sometimes multiple times a day
because the heart drifts quickly, quietly, and dangerously.

When God cleans the heart, He cleans the motives.
When He renews the spirit, He renews the direction.
When He restores the inner life, He restores the outer witness.

Ministry that begins with God will always:

• Honor Him
• Glorify Him
• Point to Him
• Depend on Him
• Reflect Him

Anything else is man’s way, and man’s way always collapses under its own weight.

Lord, create in me a clean heart today.
Strip away anything that begins with me instead of You.
Renew my mind, purify my motives, and anchor my spirit in Your truth.
Let everything I do point to Your glory alone.

NEW Sermon Series!

In 2 weeks we will begin a new series called “Behold Your King”.

We will do a deep study of Isaiah and Matthew, side by side, word for word.

We will focus on Isaiah’s prophecies and Matthew’s fulfillments.

Coming October 4th, 2026!

Repentance isn’t behavior modification. It isn’t willpower.
It isn’t gritting our teeth and choosing differently.

Biblically, repentance is a change of desire, a transformation of what the heart finds beautiful, compelling, and worthy.
And Scripture is clear: we cannot produce that desire on our own.

Our nature in Adam is bent toward self and sin. We don’t naturally find Christ attractive. We don’t naturally love God’s authority. We cannot simply “choose” to desire what we do not desire. Something supernatural must happen in us.

Jesus said in John 6:44,
“No one can come to Me unless the Father who sent Me draws him.”
And again in John 6:63,
“It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh profits nothing.”

The flesh cannot awaken itself.
The dead cannot resurrect themselves.
The blind cannot give themselves sight.

Only the Holy Spirit can ignite new desire, the kind that sees the beauty of the Cross and finds Christ irresistibly glorious.

Paul describes this miracle in 2 Corinthians 4:6:
“For it is God who commanded light to shine out of darkness, who has shone in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.”

This is the heart of salvation:
God shines.
God awakens.
God opens the eyes.
God births desire.

And when He does, repentance becomes not a burden but a joy, because the heart has been changed at the level of what it wants.

So we preach Christ.
We call people to believe.
But we know, as Scripture teaches, that only the Spirit can open the heart of the hearer.

Acts 16:14 says of Lydia,
“The Lord opened her heart to heed the things spoken by Paul.”
That’s the pattern.
That’s the miracle.
That’s the gospel.

Today, rest in this truth:
You are not responsible for manufacturing desire.
You are invited to surrender to the One who creates it.

Let the Spirit awaken what you cannot.
Let Jesus become beautiful to you in ways you could never produce.
Let God shine His light into the places where your heart still needs resurrection.

He changes what you want, and that is grace.
