9 Reasons our Family & Freinds Don't Believe The Gospel

1.They’ve never really heard the gospel. The more I speak to people in North America, the more I realize this truth. Within the shadows of our church buildings are people who have never heard the truth.

2.They struggle understanding the Bible. Even for those who are willing to read the Bible, the content is often new – and challenging. If genuine believers wrestle with interpreting the Bible, it shouldn’t surprise us that non-believers face the same battle.

3.They fail to recognize their lostness. “I treat people well, and I try to help my neighbors,” they say. “Let me tell you some of the good things I’ve been doing.” “I don’t do anything that’s just evil.” Folks who see no need for forgiveness seldom seek it.

4.They see the gospel as too good to be true. The story of the gospel really is quite astounding. That the one and only creator God would forgive our sins, make us whole, place us in His family, and indwell us is hard to fathom, especially if the story is new.

5.They see hypocrisy in the church. “I don’t expect people to be perfect,” a friend told me, “but if _______ represents what a Christian is, I don’t want to be a part.” We may defend the church all we want, but we must not forget that watching unbelievers see the reality in our lives.

6.They hear other messages more loudly. Even if a non-believer hears three one-hour Christian sermons per week (which seldom happens), he still hears dozens of hours of other messages throughout the week – and the gospel gets clouded in the process.

7.They’re enjoying their sin. Sin can be fun (at least for a while), and some of the people I know are having a good time. Following Christ, they assume, would cost them too much fun.

8.They believe time is on their side. Some of my older family and friends are now more willing to talk about eternal matters, but those who are younger have been more interested in delaying any consideration of Christianity. No urgency drives them to consider life and death matters now.

9.They cannot understand the preaching. A family member told me, “I like hearing _______ preach, but I don’t really understand him.” The Spirit of God helps us to understand the Word; however, we who preach the Word are not there to impress but to communicate the life-giving message of the gospel. Clarity is a must.

8 Things to Remember When It Feels Like the Devil’s Winning
Sometimes it just feels like Satan’s winning the game. No matter how hard we want to believe otherwise, our heart and our mind struggle because of our apparent circumstances. If that’s the way you feel today, keep these truths in mind:

Satan’s not winning – he’s been cast down. I realize there’s debate about Ezekiel 28 and the fall of Satan, but the text does speak about someone “blameless” who was “expelled in disgrace from the mountain of God” and thrown “down to the earth” (vv. 16-17).

He’s not winning – God judged him in the Garden. He would crawl on his belly and eat dust because God ruled over him. He would ultimately lose because God would crush his head (Gen. 3:14-15).

He’s not winning – he knows God has placed hedges where He wants them. Satan wanted to destroy Job, but he also knew that God had placed a protective hedge about that upright man (Job 1:10).

He’s not winning – he’s a silenced accuser when God steps in. Satan stood ready to accuse Joshua the high priest (whose filthy garments indicated his guilt), but God quieted him before he ever said a word (Zech. 3:1-7).

He’s not winning – Jesus announced His victory at the Mount of Temptation (Matt. 4:1-11). Jesus had no intention of bowing down to the enemy. He had come to defeat him, and Genesis 3:15 was about to be fulfilled.

He’s not winning – Jesus disarmed the powers through His cross (Col. 2:15). He has triumphed over them.

He’s not winning – God uses him to accomplish His plan. So we see with Paul’s thorn in the flesh (2 Cor. 12:7-10). It was a messenger of Satan, but God not only allowed it, He also refused to remove it because He intended to keep Paul humble.

He’s not winning – he is headed for eternal judgment. John gives us that word in Revelation 20:10 – “The devil who deceived them was thrown into the lake of fire and sulfur where the beast and the false prophet are, and they will be tormented day and night forever and ever."

It might seem today like Satan’s winning in your life or your church, but run to the God who’s already crushed him.

5 Essentials for a Peaceful Heart

Your peace is determined by the degree to which these truths are embedded in your soul.

Belief 1: God is absolutely sovereign. Recognizing and accepting the truth that God is sovereign over everything is vital for your inner peace. This means that nothing related to you is beyond His watchful eye and loving care. (Col. 1:17)

Belief 2: God is your provider. From cover to cover, the Bible has a clear message that God is the One who provides for all your needs. No need is too massive, problematic, or severe for Jesus to meet it. The Bible tells us, “Those who seek the Lord shall not lack any good thing” (Ps. 34:10).

Belief 3: God made you the way you are for a purpose. There are many things about your life in which you have no control. Accept those things as part of the way God created you. Your race, culture, language, nationality, s*x, and many attributes of your physical being are God’s “choices.” He also gave you talents, aptitudes, intelligence, personality, and spiritual gifts that, taken as a whole, make you a unique person on this earth to fulfill the plan He has for you. (Ps. 139:13-16)

Belief 4: God has a place where you truly belong. God created you for fellowship with Himself and others. Trust Him to help you gain a strong sense of belonging to Him and to provide for you a “family” of fellow believers to whom you can belong. Then, as you grow in Him, reach out to others. (1 Pet. 2:9).

Belief 5: God has a plan for your fulfillment. For real inner peace, a person needs to know that he or she is competent, able, capable, and skilled at doing something. There’s a wonderful sense of peace that comes when you know you’re capable of putting in a good performance or doing a good job. (Eph. 2:10)

When you accept these five essential beliefs at the core of your being and trust that God is working in you and on your behalf, inner peace will truly be yours.

COLOSSIANS 1:17
He was there at first, before anything else, and now he holds everything together, everything everywhere, and he keeps it all working properly.

Living in the Moment
Living in the moment can be hard. It’s difficult to simply enjoy today, what we have today, and who we get to experience it with today. We have so many demands for our attention, demands on our schedules, and demands on our mental energy. Sometimes it feels like today is impossible to concentrate on because tomorrow is already tugging on us.

Jesus told us to do something radical—He told us not to worry about tomorrow. He tells us in Matthew 6:34 that He will equip us to deal with today’s trouble only—not tomorrow, next week, or next month.

Some days this is harder than others. It’s easy for me not to worry about tomorrow when “tomorrow” is supposed to be a relaxing Saturday off. But it becomes a lot more difficult when “tomorrow” is the day that I have that big meeting (or dentist appointment!).

If we worry about tomorrow and whatever we think it might bring, we’re trying to control something that’s actually under His control, and not ours. If we’re honest with ourselves, we really have no idea what might happen tomorrow. We don’t even know what’s going to happen later today! However, we can know the one who controls today. And tomorrow. And forever.

Find some time today to rest in that fact. Enjoy this moment, this day, knowing that God has today and tomorrow in His hands. Let His peace make “today” meaningful.

Jesus Has Overcome the World
In life, you will have trouble. Because of our sinful nature and the schemes of the enemy, trouble can be found all around. We shouldn’t be surprised by our troubles; Jesus tells us plainly that we will have trouble in this world. Why would He say that? Because He’s honest, and He loves us. By preparing us in advance, Jesus is helping us avoid doubt and fear when we do find ourselves in hard times.

Jesus showed us what humble obedience looks like. He was obedient through far more difficult things than most of us will ever face—even to death on the cross. Now, He sits at the right hand of God the Father, interceding on our behalf. We can take comfort in knowing we have a friend who sympathizes with our weaknesses.

We can celebrate knowing that every difficult journey draws us closer to Christ and His everlasting kingdom. This is our hope: Jesus Christ has overcome sin and death forever. Death could not hold Him, the grave could not contain Him, the power of sin could not defeat Him, and darkness could not prevail against Him!

Since Christ’s finished work on the cross allows us to be children of God, we can also overcome sin. Jesus has already overcome the world—and that includes every difficult situation contained by it. Now, we can look forward to our eternal home with Jesus.
