Today, COR joins the universal Church in celebrating the Solemnity of Corpus Christi, meditating on the great gift of the Eucharist that Jesus has left us. It is the food that truly nourishes us for our journey toward heaven.

The parish church of Sainte-Mère-Église in Normandy is now famous for what happened there on June 6, 1944: D-Day. Private John Steele of the 82nd Airborne parachuted into town, was injured by flak, and dangled from the pinnacle of the church.

He faked being dead for two whole hours, until the Germans took him prisoner. Later, he was able to escape and rejoin his unit.

Today, these events are commemorated by the "Parachute Memorial," which still dangles from the church steeple. It's a tribute to all the soldiers who fought to liberate Europe.

As our COR family, let's pray today for all soldiers who have died in the defense of basic freedoms.

Let us pray 🙏🏼

On Thursday June 11, 2026, as part of the celebration of the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence, Bishop Wack will join all of the bishops of the United States to consecrate our nation to the Sacred Heart of Jesus.

The faithful across our diocese are encouraged to unite their prayers with our shepherds for this special occasion. The Novena to the Sacred Heart begins tomorrow, June 3, culminating with the consecration on June 11.

You can find the text of those prayers at usccb.org/novena-sacred-heart-jesus.

Most Sacred Heart of Jesus, we place our trust in you!

What does it mean to be a Christian? Certainly, it means to believe in Jesus Christ; that he is the Son of God, that he was crucified and rose from the dead, and that he is the savior of all mankind.

But in today's Gospel, Jesus makes it clear that Christianity is about more than just believing in him. It is about becoming like him. "As the Father has sent me, so I send you." Being a Christian literally means being committed to the same mission of Jesus: bringing salvation to the world.

But can we, mere humans after all, truly carry on Christ's work under our own power? Of course, we can't, which is why he doesn't leave us alone. He sends us his very Spirit.

It is no coincidence that today, on Pentecost Sunday, we celebrate both the descent of the Holy Spirit and the founding of the Church. Why? Because they are inseparable. The Church's core identity is to be on mission, to evangelize, to spread the Gospel, and the Holy Spirit is the person who animates this great work.

So today, COR family, let's pray not only for an outpouring of the Holy Spirit. Let's also pray that we respond by carrying on Christ's mission.
