Galatians 5:5-15 For through the Spirit, by faith, we ourselves eagerly wait for the hope of righteousness. For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision nor uncircumcision counts for anything, but only faith working through love. You were running well. Who hindered you from obeying the truth? This persu...

In Jesus Christ, humanity is put back on the track, the track of making a God-glorifying world. -James B. Jordan

On what biblical basis should baptized children be admitted to the Lord's Supper?

Jeffrey J. Meyers' new book proposes a number of questions like this one while providing answers that show the continuity between children's participation in Old Covenant feasts and the New Covenant meal. He also warns against misunderstanding Paul's admonition in 1 Corinthians 11 to divisive church members.

If I were to put my theological life on a scale, this man, more than anyone else, shaped and added weight to my formation.

I enjoyed spending time with him here in Dallas, reminiscing about our days together in Pensacola, and thanking him for his invaluable contribution to my life and so many others. It was a delight to bring my daughter to meet someone she knew as a child. Jim was always extremely kind to my children. We had many, many Lord's Day meals together, and I fondly remember his humorous imitations and encyclopedic knowledge of movies, books, and European culture.

Jim taught me many things, but most significant was that he taught me that music is to be roared and Jesus is to be adored through his glorious service.

He's not the same man he once was, but as he taught me, God moves us from glory to glory; we are made to change. Even though his health has declined and his sharpness and quickness are no longer present, there are still beautiful glimpses of the man who taught me to read the Bible through new eyes. I will remember our time together.

Much love to this dear saint!

There are dozens of approaches to the apologetic for covenant baptism. But the one that settles the issue for me is not the circumcision/baptism connection (which I think is overused) but the clear and direct examples of infant faith in the Bible.

If it can be demonstrated that even the 'least of these' can articulate faith, then the defense of infant baptism becomes robust and compelling.

The premises which must be met are the following:

a) There must be examples of a covenant people that manifest faith in their infancy as a society.
b) There must be distinct examples of infants manifesting faith throughout the Scriptures.
c) There must be examples of infants partaking in the Church's sacramental life.
d) There must be examples of faith expressed by those who do not fit the profile of intellectual self-awareness. The premise indicates that every baptism is an infant baptism, whether at eight days or eighty years. Everyone who professes faith in Christ is in his infancy.
e) There must be examples of Jesus bonding, covenanting, and offering benedictions to infants.
f) The Bible must contain examples of faith expressed through the typology of seeds. This would indicate that faith is a gift planted, which must increase through nurture and admonition.

When these six premises are fulfilled, it is undeniable that children can profess faith. This faith, I contend, transcends mere intellectual articulation of information. It is a profound trust in the authorities who guide us to Jesus, a submission to the life of the faith community that worships Jesus, an incorporation into the new humanity created by Jesus, and a participation in the songs of the Bride that exalt Jesus.

We are eager to have Dr. Gentry join us for our Pentecost Lectures at Providence Church (CREC) this evening. There is still room for anyone to join us. Drop us a note in the comment section!

So, this essay is a teaser for Gentry's new 1,800-word commentary on Revelation. These two volumes will likely shake the heavens and lead to wars and rumors of wars, at least in the interpretive community.

My essay serves as an introduction to orthodox preterism or partial-preterism. It's designed to prepare the reader for a deeper understanding of Matthew 24.

Consider it the preface to the chapter, the appetizer before the main meal. If you're curious and want to get a taste, read it. If you don't have a subscription, just let me know, and I will grant you three months of access.

A hearty thanks for all the birthday wishes!

For my Friday edition, I have a whole theology of feasting laid out and even some practical ways to keep the feast.

"The overflow of that joy forms our communities. The lack of that joy also forms a community. Congregations that constantly bicker over minutia, leadership that is always at odds with one another, and people who don’t treasure hospitality are often signs of communities where joy is no more or in the process of exiting the building. One of the blessings of any community is the shared stories of togetherness and sweet memories formed at dinner tables and campfires."

"Inseparably connected to the use of the tongue in court is the question of the impartiality of justice. God's law is impartial. It does not favor one person above another. (Grace does favor some, the elect; but law favors no one.) Modern law is increasingly partial. Special laws are passed to favor or protect business, unions, famers, blacks, women, etc. Thus, our laws have become a means of warfare, with each group seeking legal favors over against other groups. The result is a warfare society." - JBJ, _The Law of the Covenant_, p. 167.
