Happy 250th, America! 🇺🇸

At Oakwood, we only missed the first 80 years. Since 1856, we've honored those who came before us, preserved our community's history, and helped ensure that America's stories continue to be remembered for generations to come.

This week at Oakwood Cemetery, we had the opportunity to learn from one of the best in the field.

As part of his 48 States Tour, monument conservation expert Jonathan Appell with visited Oakwood to provide hands-on training covering the history of cemetery stone materials, common preservation challenges, repair techniques, and proper stone cleaning using Endurance products.

The visit also included a live demonstration of resetting a historic monument, made possible thanks to a generous donation of gravel from Mike's Lawn Service.

We're grateful to Jonathan, , for sharing their expertise and to Mike's Lawn Service for helping make this valuable training possible. Every opportunity to learn more about preserving historic cemeteries helps us better care for Oakwood's irreplaceable monuments for generations to come.

Many thanks to our friends at the Rotary Club for donating new trash receptacles to replace some well-worn ones throughout Oakwood. It's a simple improvement that helps us keep the cemetery clean, welcoming, and looking its best for all who visit.

This Memorial Day, we pause to remember and honor the men and women who gave their lives in service to our country.

Across the peaceful grounds of Oakwood rest veterans whose stories, sacrifice, and courage helped shape the nation we know today. Their legacy lives on not only in history books, but here among us, beneath the trees and along the quiet paths of this historic cemetery.

This weekend, we invite you to visit Oakwood, take a quiet moment of reflection, and walk among heroes. 🇺🇸

For 10 years, Oakwood Cemetery has proudly been a stop along the shuttle route, helping visitors discover that the story of Niagara goes far beyond the Falls themselves. From abolitionists and daredevils to industrialists, veterans, and everyday community members, so much of our region’s history rests here.

The shuttle is completely FREE to ride, making it easy to hop on, hop off, and explore the places that tell Niagara’s deeper story.
