Absence of Godliness

Jude, verse 4 - For certain persons have crept in unnoticed, those who were long beforehand marked out for this condemnation, ungodly persons who turn the grace of our God into licentiousness and deny our only Master and Lord, Jesus Christ.

Some churches today have false (ungodly) teachers who are teaching a twisted version of God's word. There are churches today that are teaching misinterpreted versions of God's word. Why?

Much in the Bible can, and is based on interpretation. Those teaching honestly believe what they are teaching. They are not out to mislead. They honestly believe their interpretation is correct. However, there are those that are twisting God's word to fit their lifestyle, or justify what they do, not only within the church, but also in their personal lives, which results in a gross absence of godliness.

This is why it is so important to read, study, and attend a Bible teaching church. You are responsible for learning what God's word says and how to apply it your life. If not, you are susceptible to false teachings because you are not fully grounded in God's truth. Not just reading, but studying God's word, what does the Bible really mean. We must understand the basic doctrine of our faith so that we can recognize false teachings/doctrines/practices that can undermine our faith.

You Can Run

Jonah 1:1 - 4

1. The word of the Lord came to Jonah the son of Amittai saying, 2. "Arise, go to Nineveh the great city and cry against it, for their wickedness has come up before Me."
3. But Jonah rose up to flee to Tarshish from the presence of the Lord. So he went down to Joppa, found a ship which was going to Tarshish, paid the fare and went down into it to go with them to
Tarshish from the presence of the Lord.
4. The Lord hurled a great wind on the sea and there was a great storm on the sea so that the ship was about to break up.

We have all heard and know the story of Jonah and the time he spent in the belly of a fish. God gave Jonah a job to do. He was to go to Nineveh, the most important city in Assyria, and to preach to the people. To turn them around back to God. What did Jonah do? He ran away from God, going the opposite direction of Nineveh, to Tarshish. He tried to get as far as he could from God. So what happened?

God caused a great storm to hit, putting the ship that Jonah was on in peril. The storm was so bad, the crew of the ship started throwing much of their cargo overboard in an attempt to save the ship from being sunk. Eventually, Jonah was thrown overboard to save the ship and her crew.

Just like Jonah, our disobedience can not only affect us, but will affect others around us. Our disobedience may not put the lives of those around us in danger, but can and will affect them in some way. That's why it is important to obey God, and obey the first time He gives you a mission. Next to salvation, obedience is the most important thing we need to do. God will not give you a mission you cannot complete. There is no need to run from God. Your fear, your inexperience, your lack of confidence will be taken care of through your faith. Besides, you can run, but you can't hide.

“OG”

John 1:1 and 2

1. In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
2. He was in the beginning with God.

In the criminal world, particularly in the world of gangs, the term "OG" stands for "Original Gangster". It is an affectionate moniker for the "old guys", the ones that started the gangs years ago. For the most part they are highly respected in the gang community.
In the spiritual, or Christian world, you could say that Jesus is an "OG". Not an original gangster, but the "Original God". Today's verses confirm it, along with Genesis 1:1 - In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth.

"In the beginning God". Stop and think what a powerful statement that really is!
