September 12; 2 Peter 3:1; 230/260(IV); ‘Stir Up Your Minds’

2 Peter 3:1 Beloved, I now write to you this second epistle (in both of which I stir up your pure minds by way of reminder),

The Apostle Peter in his epistles is very diligent to stress the importance of the Word of God. He encourages the believers to know the Word, so that they can live a victorious life and to know the Word to protect them from false ministers. Peter exhorts the body of Christ to know what the Old Testament prophets said and also what Jesus’ apostles taught. We know that the Word of God is the Lord speaking to us. His Word is the ‘general’ information we need to know, given to us by a loving Father, that if obeyed will enable us to be successful and an overcomer in every aspect of our lives. If we know the truth and Jesus told us that the Word of God is truth (John 17:17), the devil and minister imposters will not be able to lie and deceive us with what they teach. Peter tells us in verse one that he ‘stirs up your pure minds by way of a reminder.’ This is similar to what Peter said in chapter 1 of his second epistle. He told us that he would be faithful to remind Christians of what the Word says, even though they have heard the scriptures and know them. What a joy it is to have read a verse or a few verses several times and have a general understanding of what the Word is teaching. Then on your own or listening to a minister, you look at the same verse or verses and see something that you have never seen before. Be a student of the Word all of your life. The Lord will reward your diligence and as you study the Word, your love for the Word and the impact the Word will have on your life will bless you and many others.

Thursday Healing Service 1:00pm "Healing Belongs to You" Matthew 8:16-17

John 17:17 teaches that the Word of God is truth. There are many verse in the Word of God both in the Old Testament and the New Testament that confirm that Jesus Christ is the Lord our Healer. On the cross the Lord Jesus redeemed us from our sins and sicknesses. What Jesus bore, we need not bear. I encourage you to attend our Healing Services and find out what the Bible has to say about how our Lord Jesus Christ took our sicknesses upon Himself so that we would not have to. No greater love.

September 6; I Peter 2:2; 224/260(IV); ‘Desire the Word’

1 Peter 2:2 as newborn babes, desire the pure milk of the word, that you may grow thereby,

Just as a newborn baby in the natural needs milk, so does a new Christian need the basic teachings of the Word of God. Just as milk helps a newborn baby to grow, the basic teachings of the Word of God give the new Christian the beginning foundation for them to grow spiritually. The Word of God is likened unto food in several scriptures. The word ‘desire’ in this verse is translated crave in several translations. I remember my sons as infants, how they were so excited when it was time to have a bottle of milk. That is the way the Lord wants us to feel about spending time in the Word. Just as a baby grows up, having been blessed by milk, we grow up spiritually blessed by the firm foundation the ‘milk of the Word’ put in us. Children, grow into teens who grow into adults and they need more than milk in their diet. Spiritually, we grow in a similar manor as a human being. We need the ‘meat’ of the Word of God, deeper truths that we can understand and build upon because of the foundation we have in the ‘milk of the Word.’ One reason we are taught to tithe in the Word is that the Pastor would be financially compensated and not have to work a secular job. In this manner, the Pastor would have ample time to study the Word and prepare ‘spiritual food’ (Malachi 3:10). With proper study time the Pastor is to serve the congregation messages that will equip the congregation to do the work of the ministry. Just as natural food gives energy, spiritual food strengthens the believer for the work of Jesus.

Pastor Barry's "Chapter & Verse" 2026 "A Doer of the Word"

August 31; James 1:22; 218/260(IV); ‘A Doer of the Word’

James 1:22 But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves

One of the greatest joys in life is to read the Word of God. The more you do, the more you understand and the more blessed you are, as you see very clearly how much the Lord loves you. Jesus does not want us to only read the Word of God. He wants us to do the Word of God. Doing the Word is a command, not a suggestion. This verse tells us that if we only read the Word and do not do it, we deceive ourselves. Verses 23-25 teaches that if we only hear the Word and do not do it, it is like a man observing himself in a mirror, goes away and forgets what he looks like. The Bible clearly shows us who we are in Jesus Christ. If we never live by what the Word teaches, we easily forget who we are in Christ and have to rely on our own ability. We were never meant to live like that. Verse 25 tells us that if we do the Word of God, not just hear it, the Word of God will bless us in whatever we do. The more time I spend in the Word, the more I see the truth of who the Lord Jesus created me to be. As I do what the Word says, the more I see that I am and can do exactly what the Word says. How exciting life becomes as we realize, just as Jesus told us, that we are in this world, but we are not of this world. We live our lives in line with truth, the Word and as we forget about who we are in the natural and concentrate on and do who we are as Christians, life as we know it completely changes. Doers of the Word continue the ministry of Jesus. Faith in our Lord and having seen that the Word works by doing it changes us forever.
