Grace Episcopal Church Newton

Grace Episcopal Church Newton Sunday services, masks encouraged: Holy Eucharist with choir, in the Sanctuary and online, 10:30. Learn more about our ministries: https://www.gracenewton.org

Church school, choir practice, and Grace Discussion Group start 9/18 at 9:30. We are blessed by the many wonderful traditions that weave a unique pattern of worship, pastoral care, fellowship, religious education, and social action. This tapestry of our common life reflects the textures of the past as well as newfound energy – which helps us to continue to grow in our life in Christ. Our activitie

s flow out of our desire to grow closer to God and to one another. Therefore, worship and community are very important to us. From that commitment to worship and caring for each other we, in turn, care for others in the wider community, the Diocese, and the world. If you are new to the parish, we hope you will feel welcome here to explore your own journey of faith. There are so many opportunities to feel a part of Grace Church from singing in the Choir, to teaching Sunday School, to flipping pancakes at our Shrove Tuesday Pancake Supper, and everything in between.

Our Maundy Thursday service was a time of fellowship and sitting deeply in faith as we ate, sang, washed feet, stripped the altar, and continued to prepare our hearts for the days to come.

Please continue this journey with us tonight at our Good Friday worship at 7:30 PM.

And, of course, we look forward to seeing you on Sunday morning to celebrate the Risen Lord.

Two weeks ago, we asked the youth for their input. What do you want to talk about in Youth Group? What kinds of service opportunities would you like to participate in? What would you like to do for fun and social outings?

Someone said they wanted to joust. So this past Sunday, we jousted.

Someone also wanted to discuss racism inside and outside the Episcopal/Christian Church. So we discussed what Social Justice means to them and the difference between equality and equity.

I wonder how you understand Social Justice and what equality and equity mean to you.

This past Sunday, adults, youth, and children gathered for a shared Intergenerational Formation Hour to learn about the wonderful creation of God, that are birds. This Lent, adults in the Grace Discussion Group will focus on Creation Care. And children and youth have been talking about Creation for much of this year.

And if you still need a Lenten Practice, we invite you to 40 Birds of Lent. Please see the image attached for the description. Please let us know if you post or share so we can reshare it with the wider community. If you write a reflection and wish to share, email Patrick Kangrga, Minister for Christian Formation for Children & Youth.

40 Birds of Lent is an idea from Laurel Dykstra (no pronouns/they/them) an Anglican priest, environmental activist, and amateur naturalist.

About 40 people gathered for Shrove Tuesday. We were filled with pancakes, good conversation, and love and laughter. It is always great to be reminded that we are better when we gather together.

This will be an intergenerational party for all ages.

Though RSVP is not required, it does help with preparing food.

In December, the Rev. Dr. Regina L. Walton announced that she would be stepping down from her position as Pastor and Rector of Grace Church. Please join us this Sunday, January 22, as we celebrate her ministry and leadership and say a fond farewell to her and her family after almost nine years among us.

Regina writes, "It has been one of the great privileges of my life to serve this congregation. I want you to know: you will be in my heart forever."

Please follow our newsletter, Grace Today, for information about the leadership transition.

Seek God like the shepherds. Praise God like the angels. Give generously to strangers like the Magi from afar. Protect the vulnerable, with Joseph, and, with Mary, keep pondering the deep mystery of the Incarnation in your heart. Amen.
