6/12 Update on Leah

After a bump in the road early this week Leah is back on the right track. So much so that she has been discharged today from Barnes Jewish Hospital and will now remain in St Louis for around 2 weeks. This is because we live 2 hours away and need to be close for appointments and home health visits. We want to thank you all for your thoughts, prayers, and well wishes. We are very grateful for that. They have definitely helped!

Update on Leah:

Leah is now out of ICU and on one of the medical floors. Today is full of tests to make sure things are progressing like we hope. She’s really tired and trying to get rest in a busy hospital. Thank you for all the prayers and well wishes. We ask that you please keep Leah in your prayers for a smooth recovery.

Update on Leah Finley:

Dr. Chapman the lead surgeon was just in. The team is very pleased with her progress. The drain will be removed tomorrow, and he says no restrictions on eating. She’s going to try some pudding later. He said once the drain is out she may take a shower. She told him that she is going to be his fastest discharged patient. He kinda laughed and said “that’s a good plan, but don’t push it” even though I think he’s pretty thrilled with her progress.

He then said that discharge could be possible this weekend 😳. Obviously that all depends on an upward trajectory.

He and the team want her to stay local for 2 weeks post discharge, which we knew when we started this process 5 years ago, so that means we got to get a plan in place. She will need someone to stay with her 24/7 that can get her to the hospital in case of emergency and obviously just help her around wherever we stay. Her team has a social worker on it and she is being updated about all this progress. We talked to her last night and told her Dr. Chapman suggested the Mid America Family Transplant House. Google it if you’d like. But we feel it would be a much more affordable option than a hotel or Airbnb. As of this afternoon Taya, the social worker, has talked to the place, and they have a 2 bedroom apartment that would be available Tuesday next week. So if she is discharged this weekend we would just have to get her a hotel room until we can go to the Family House.

Sounds very positive!! Yay!! Go, Leah!

The St. Thomas family asks for prayers for one of our moms, Leah Finley. She has undergone a liver transplant in St. Louis today. Prayers for a smooth recovery for Leah and prayers for her family would be appreciated!
