We are a warm and dynamic congregation of the United Church of Christ (UCC), located in Newton Corner, near all points in Newton as well as Brighton and Watertown. We are a community of believers, seekers and questioners devoted to being on a faith journey together. We strive to weave service and advocacy into the fabric of all we do as a community of faith. By doing so we hope to cultivate an awa

reness that doing justice, serving others and working for change in our world is a central part of being a Christian. We cherish our children and youth, and dedicate many resources in providing multiple opportunities for education, spiritual formation, and Christian growth. We also treasure music and the arts as pathways to grow in communion with God and with each other. Eliot is an Open and Affirming Church, believing that ALL people are children of God. We recognize, celebrate and give thanks for the rich diversity and boundless gifts of EVERYONE. Ever had a moment when life felt like checkmate?

Yesterday at Eliot, we were reminded: “Have you not known? Have you not heard?”

When we’re exhausted or discouraged, it’s easy to forget what we already know about God. But sometimes, we need to stay with the board a little longer—to wait, trust, and leave room for possibility.

What looks like checkmate from where we’re standing may not be the end of what God can do.

There’s always one more move.

As we head into Labor Day weekend, we’re enjoying these last little moments of summer while welcoming the changing season at Eliot. Stop by our Little Library, take a book, leave a book, and maybe linger for a little while.

Yesterday during our benediction, Erica shared a beautiful poem written by a longtime Eliot Church member for Eliot’s 180th anniversary celebration.

Past, present, and future: a glorious church story unfolds.

We are part of a story that began generations ago and continues today—and will continue for decades to come. May we remember that we are connected to all who have filled these pews before us and all who will come after us.

Together, we go forth sharing Christ’s message of love and helping one another, especially the least among us.
