Adventure Camp is unique for a couple reasons: first, we travel from the Christian Conference Center to different places for our Adventures - things like hiking and exploring, zip lines, climbing towers, boating and water games, scavenger hunts and so on. Second, because of the nature of the camp, we attract a 'different' kind of camper than the traditional camps do - some are campers that go to other church camps in the summer, but most have not experienced church camp before and several over the years do not attend church. Third, while we do not spend a lot of time in discussions like a traditional camp might, we do use the camp curriculum and incorporate them with the Adventures we have as well as our regular worship experiences, and we do work hard to guide people from where they are to have Spiritual experiences and faith learning. As one of my oldest son's friends told his mom after our first year doing Adventure Camp - "It was great, but they sure do talk about God alot!" (We felt like we hadn't done a lot of talking about God, for church camp at least, but there it is.)
At any rate, because we go on adventures we need transportation. We need 3 15 passenger vans, which we have reserved from Rentavan which is a company that specializes in renting vans to church groups for things like mission trips or other events. The cost of renting each van is $836.64 for the time we need them. Ankeny Christian Church has generously donated two of the van rentals. We were hoping that other congregations in the region might like to sponsor all or part of the third. If you, or your church would like to contribute to this effort, please contact Rev. Andrea Brownlee or Eric Lahart to support the work of Adventure Camp.
