A news update on ICE activity near Park Avenue United Methodist Church in Minneapolis.

Today, January 13, 2026, an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) presence surrounded Park Ave United Methodist Church in South Minneapolis. The church is within blocks of where Renee Good was killed during ICE operations on January 7, 2026.

The ICE presence lasted from approximately 9:20 a.m.-11:20 a.m. and spanned three sides of the church—Park Avenue on the east, 34th Street to the north, and Oakland Avenue to the west.

Protesters were present on the scene and remained peaceful. Toward the end of the two-hour period, pepper spray and pepper bombs were deployed by ICE agents against the protestors, with chemical irritants drifting across Park Avenue UMC’s parking lot.

Rev. Dan Johnson and other Park Avenue UMC staff were affected by the chemical irritants as they aided protesters on church property. The neighborhood cleared of ICE agents by about 11:20 a.m.

The church is secure, all staff are safe, and no injuries, except from the chemical irritants, were reported.

Rev. Dan Johnson asks for prayers for his congregation and neighborhood. He asks people to visit https://www.parkavechurch.org/ for more ways to help the community.
