Southeast Church Extension

Southeast Church Extension SCE exists to "Bring Ministry to Pastors and Churches" by helping churches advance church planting, Carolina, N.

Southeast Church Extension exists to "Bring Ministry to Pastors and Churches" by promoting the advancement of church health and church planting through Bible teaching, supportive friendship, church networking, and ministry training in the southeastern USA. The staff and board of SCE bring over 125 years of pastoral experience to this vital ministry. We extend a hand in ministry to pastors, churche

s and learning intitutions in Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia, S. Carolina, the eastern portions of Tennessee and Kentucky, and the mountain areas of Virginia. SCE works with Bible colleges, institutes, seminaries and with churches to train young pastors by offering internships and mentoring, and by participation in missions conferences and guest speaking engagements. SCE works with churches all along the growth spectrum by providing church health conferences and training, participating in missions conferences, church assessment, pulpit supply and even facility advice. SCE is a member of IFCA International, a network of 2,000 pastors, churches and Christian organizations around the globe, and is the extension ministry of IFCA Int. officially endorsed by the Gulf States, Atlantic SE and Cumberland regionals.

“To everything there is a season, and a time for every purpose under heaven.”

We don't know all that was in King Solomon’s mind when he penned those words, but this much is certain: they were given by God, and they remain true in every generation.

When Southeast Church Extension was launched in 2014, we could not have imagined all the gracious things God would do. By His kindness, we were able to plant a church, assist several other churches in their pursuit of discipleship and church health, and help establish a forward path for the ministry of IFCA International in the southeastern United States.

Since our move to Tennessee in October 2014, I have had the privilege of speaking 467 times through preaching, teaching, and ministry presentations in churches, Bible colleges, and gatherings for pastors and ministry leaders across 17 states and one foreign country. That ministry has included extended and ongoing service in five different churches, as well as the planting and pastoring of one church. During those years, God also allowed us to host and house two interns. What a season of ministry the Lord has given us! To Him be all praise.

Through seasons of both grief and victory, God has never failed us, nor has He ever given us reason to doubt His faithfulness. Yet seasons do change, and as Solomon reminds us, “to everything there is a season.” The ministry season of Southeast Church Extension is no exception. On April 16, our Board of Directors voted to cease operations, effective June 1, 2026.

This decision was neither easy nor hasty. We have prayed, sought counsel, and shed many tears along the way. In 2018, we agreed on a leadership transition plan, yet the Lord did not provide another leader to carry the ministry forward. In 2025, when Dan stepped down as Director, no successor emerged. We receive that, together with the current severe financial shortfall, as the Lord’s providential indication that He has another plan. Though this is a sorrowful moment, we do not grieve without hope or despair. We believe the God who ordained the beginning of this ministry has also ordained its close, and we wait with anticipation to see what He will do next, trusting Him to accomplish His work in His way and in His time.

To all who have prayed, given, encouraged, and stood beside us, we simply say thank you. There is no greater privilege than serving the living Savior. If, in God’s providence, He chooses to continue in another form what has been begun through this ministry, we will rejoice, because it has always been about Him.

Why understanding our focus is important

Why understanding our focus is important

Focus

If we don't have focus... well, you know.

Proverbs 24:3 Through wisdom a house is built, and by understanding it is established.

The focus of a church is found in the definitions of what the church sees as its purpose and plan for future ministry, and how the church aspires to accomplish its goals.

Every church should have a clearly written statement of its Values (what it is); its Purpose or Mission (why it exists); its Vision (aspirational goals for future ministry); and its Strategy (how it will accomplish its Vision). Once there is a clear understanding of what it is, it can BE what it is and then create and communicate a ministry atmosphere to accommodate those characteristics of the church.

God is honored when churches fulfill His purposes in their communities. Because every community is different, every church will fulfill God's plan in a different way. The task of the local church is to discover how it can obey God in the community He has placed it. In terms of methods, there are no "cookie cutter" ministries or churches. Every church must discover the unique opportunities for ministry God has provided to it and embrace them.

This ministry perspective and understanding should be taught at all levels of church ministry, including the children. God's people need to see that He has a great purpose for His church in providing servants all around the world, as they come and go from individual churches.
