Sometimes I forget where my roots are actually planted. Or if they are planted at all…
After years of coming and going in the military life, digging up roots just to replant them again feels like second nature. What a dream it is to have roots that run so deep and stretch so far that they make it nearly impossible to dig up.
Oh, to have the kind of strength that deep roots provide.
Instead, my roots often feel fragile and shallow. Maybe if I’m lucky, there will be a sprig fighting for dear life to stay put. But, more often than not, I feel like a plant that has been transplanted repeatedly, looking for its forever home.
Every time we move, I remind myself of the importance of investing in where I am, even if it’s temporary… and there is truth to that. There’s so much good that can come from being intentional no matter where you land.
But do you want to know the sweet part, military wife? It’s actually the most important part – I tend to forget, and I need a perpetual reminder.
My roots are not temporarily placed. And despite what I have believed, they are not uprooted.
My roots remain, because my roots are not planted in what’s temporary.
My roots are planted in God.
I don’t have to dream about longing for deep roots – I already have them.
They are strong.
They are steadfast.
They don’t buckle under pressure.
They can’t be pulled up with ease.
They are all these things simply because they are planted in His love. And it’s His love that provides the strength I need to get through every season.
Military wife, if you are reading this and feel exhausted from the weight of this life’s instability, there is hope. By trusting Christ and allowing Him to make His home in your heart, you will ALWAYS have strong roots.
If you have questions about this or want to learn more about having roots that last, I would love to talk with you, just send us a message!
“Then Christ will make his home in your hearts as you trust in Him. Your roots will grow down into God’s love and keep you strong. And may you have the power to understand, as all God’s people should, how wide, how long, how high, and how deep His love is. May you experience the love of Christ, though it is too great to understand fully. Then you will be made complete with all the fullness of life and power that comes from God.”
