“If God is not a Trinity, God is not love.”

Think about that for a moment.

Before creation, before the universe, before any human being existed, God was already love.

Why?

Because God is not a solitary person. He is Father, Son, and Holy Spirit—an eternal communion of love. The Father loves the Son. The Son loves the Father. The Holy Spirit is the bond of love between them.

Love is not something God does.

Love is who God is.

And the beautiful truth is that you were created to share in that divine life. Every desire for relationship, belonging, and communion points back to the God who made you in His image.

The Solemnity of the Most Holy Trinity reminds us that Christianity is not merely about following rules. It’s about entering into a relationship with the Father through the Son in the power of the Holy Spirit.

The Trinity is not a math problem to solve.

It’s a mystery to enter.

Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, draw us deeper into Your divine life today.

In the book of Genesis, mankind united in pride to build the Tower of Babel, a tower meant to reach the heavens. In response, God confused their one language into many and scattered them across the earth. What had been one people speaking one tongue became many peoples who could no longer understand one another.

At Pentecost, the opposite happened. When the Holy Spirit descended on the Apostles in tongues of fire, they began to speak in other tongues, and people gathered in Jerusalem from every nation each heard the Gospel in their own language. The division of Babel was reversed. Where God had once scattered humanity through language, He now drew it back together through the Gospel.

This is why the two events belong together. At Babel, mankind was divided in pride. At Pentecost, mankind was reunited in Christ.

Saint Gregory Nazianzen preached this very contrast around the year 381. It is the reason the Church still reads the story of Babel at the Vigil Mass of Pentecost, setting the two side by side so the faithful can see the connection.

Pentecost is the undoing of Babel. ✝️
