John's United Church of Christ is a church of congregational polity that is a part of the ecumenically-minded United Church of Christ. Our heritage is the diverse coalition of congregational and reformed churches that emerged from the protestant reformation in Europe and made its way to America with the Pilgrims. Founded in 1957, the United Church of Christ was created specifically from the governing synod of the Evangelical and Reformed Churches of America and the general council of the Congregational Christian Churches of the United States. The United Church of Christ has a strong tradition of inclusion while maintaining its love of scripture and its knowledge that Jesus Christ remains at the head of our church. The United Church of Christ has been a pioneer in cutting-edge societal issues beginning with it's fight against slavery and continuing through the committed inclusion of women as ordained clergy. We are continuing our mission of social justice as we strive to fully include all persons in the membership and leadership of our church, regardless of race, gender, sexual orientation, or social status.

This morning we had a wonderful service of worship. Before everyone began their Labor Day celebrations, we gathered to worship and to receive the Sacrament of Holy Communion.
This was the final Sunday of our summer music program before Chancel Choir returns next Sunday. We want to thank Garrett Cutajar and Kendra Franke for providing beautiful music for us this morning.

We will be celebrating the Sacrament of Holy Communion during the service.

We had a wonderful worship service this morning at St. John’s. We thank Jean Nutgrass, Katheryn Jones and oboist Yo Shionoya for their beautiful music this morning. Their music was both joyous and inspirational. Thank you for sharing your talent with us.

Dear members and friends of St. John's,

We are saddened by the loss of our member and friend Bette Ann Bolmer.
Bette Ann Bolmer, 90, of Fort Thomas, passed away on August 26, 2026. Bette was a Newport High School Graduate and worked many devoted years at Fifth Third Bank as a manager. She enjoyed reading and volunteering within the Fort Thomas Schools, with many recognizable achievements for hours dedicated to volunteering. Bette was a dedicated member for her whole life at St. John's United Church of Christ in Newport. Most of all, Bette loved spending time with her granddaughters and watching them grow up.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Robert Bolmer, mother, Vera Diedenhofer, father, Edward Diedenhofer, son, Bobby Bolmer, sister, Phyllis Weber, sister, Nancy White. Left to cherish Bette's memory are her daughter, Barbie Bogard, son, Dave Bolmer, granddaughters, Maddie and Morgan, several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
Visitation will be held 10:30 am to 11:30 am, Wednesday, September 2, 2026 at St. John's United Church of Christ, Newport. A funeral service will begin at 11:30 am at the Church. Burial will take place in the Evergreen Cemetery Southgate, Kentucky.
