ACTS 10:24-33

APPOINTMENT

Both Cornelius and Peter understood that this was a divine appointment. This was a meeting arranged and ordered by God.

WE SHOULD BE THERE OURSELVES… VV. 28-29
A. When God Wants Us Receiving, We Should Be Ready…James 1:19
B. When God Wants Us Teaching, We Should Be Ready… I Peter 3:15

WE SHOULD ANTICIPATE SOMETHING GREAT…VV. 25, 33
A. Cornelius Waited…Vv. 24
Waited - "to look for"
B. Cornelius Was Ready To Worship… VV. 25
C. Cornelius Was Ready To Receive God's Instruction… vv. 33

WE SHOULD INVITE OTHERS TO HEAR THE WORD OF GOD… VV. 24
Notice how that while he waits, Cornelius is busy. He not only plans to be there himself, but gathers others together to be there.

What difference would it make if we thought of each church service and every devotional time as a divine appointment?

ACTS 10:9-23
PREPARATION
We see that Cornelius has been prepared by the Lord for the message. Now, God has to deal with the one who is to deliver the message. If ever the Word of God is going to be received, God must be at work in the life of both the hearer and the giver.
PETER HAS A VISION… VV. 9-16
A. He Went To Pray…vv. 9
B. He Became Hungry….vv. 10
After all it was noon-time.
C. He Refused The "Common & The "Unclean"… vv. 13-14
Common = Unprepared
Unclean = Forbidden/impure
Cf. I Timothy 4:4-5
D. He Received Instruction… Vv. 15
Notice… This was accomplished three times. It appears that there is a connection with learning and the number three.
John 21:15-19
PETER HAS VISITORS… VV. 17-23
A. Confusion… vv. 17
B. Clarity... v. 17-20, 22
1. Timing v. 17
2. Teaching... v. 18-20
-Based on previous revelation
-Requires faith
3. Testimony... v. 23
D. Cooperation… vv. 21-23
What did Peter learn? Acts 10:28!
Peter did not need to doubt the Word of God. It is likely that Peter would have had tremendous problems going to the house of Cornelius if he had not had the leading of the Holy Spirit

The Blessings of Remembrance

Psalm 20:1-9

We often honor those who have sacrificed for us with a memorial to “remember” them. In this royal psalm, David shows the blessings of remembering and being remembered.

May God Remember You... Vv. 1-5
- Defend You
- Strengthen You
- Accept You
- Grant to You

May You Remember God... Vv. 5-9
- Rejoice in His Salvation
- Know His Salvation
- Trust His Salvation
- Others fall trusting in human power
- We stand remembering God’s authority
- Call for His Salvation

As we celebrate and honor the men and women who sacrificed their lives for our country, may we rejoice in remembering He Who sacrificed Himself for our souls!
