PRIDE
"Pride goeth before destruction, and an haughty spirit before a fall." -Proverbs 16:18
Pride is an almost impossible thing to
address. Although some seem especially prone to it, no one is immune to it. Some people even become proud of just how humble they are!
THE TRAP OF PRIDE... VV. 18-25
- Pride Hurts Others... vv. 18-19
- Pride Is Easily Angered By Others... v. 20
- Pride Is Susceptible To Flattery... vv. 20-21
- Pride Leads To Death... v. 23
THE TRIUMPH OVER PRIDE... V. 23-25

- His Word Will Grow... v. 24
- We Will Be More Faithful... v. 25
- We Will Influence Others... vv. 25b
Pride is contrary to Christ, and so to the follower of Christ. Pride is thinking more of yourself than of God. Humility is thinking more of God than yourself.

FOLLOWING JESUS
This chapter is a great story. One of the things about the stories in Acts, is it shows a little of what it was like for those following Jesus. Here are some "take aways" from the first 17 verses.
PEOPLE WHO FOLLOW JESUS:
1. Do not have identical experiences. (James vs. Peter)
cf. Romans 14:7-8
2. Know the value of prayer. (vv. 5; 12)
cf. Ephesians 6:18-20
3. Give glory to God. (vs. 11, 17)
contrast Acts 12:23; Romans 1:21-22
4. Are often not believed. (vs. 13-15)
Cf. Romans 10:16
5. Take precautions. (v. 17)
In Acts, we have already seen Paul escape from Antioch and Jerusalem by stealth (9:23-25; 9:29-30).
Are you a follower of Jesus?
