Thursday Fun Day!🌟

How are you doing? How's your week?

I was thinking about something Pastor Camelot preached last Sunday. She was talking about how the Bible says love fulfills the Law (Paul, in his letter to the Romans, and Jesus, in Matthew 22). And then she mentioned 1 Corinthians 13:4-7, the so-called "Love Chapter." She said that this passage is how we show up in life.

Which reminded me of that little exercise, where you replace the word "love" with your name. Let's try it together:

"[Your name] is patient.
[Your name] is kind.
[Your name] does not envy or boast.
[Your name] is not arrogant or rude.
[Your name] does not insist on [his/her] own way.
[Your name] is not irritable or resentful.
[Your name] does not rejoice at wrongdoing, but rejoices with the truth.
[Your name] bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things." - Adapted from 1 Corinthians 13:4-7

My heart was made tender and refreshed, praying these words for my life, and I hope it kindles your heart as well.~💛

This past Sunday, Pastor Camelot asked us what we were remembering, and how those things we are holding onto are shaping us; she asked, where are we?

God asked this same question in the Garden of Eden. God knew where Adam and Eve were, they weren't lost to God. But He was asking them to recognize the truth and come back to Him.

I read this quote yesterday about this very scene: "When God comes with his question 'Where are you?' - we are placed in crisis. Truth (non-concealment) will attack us. We are shown ourselves...We cannot stay behind our social cosmetics." - from "Three-Mile an Hour God," by Kosuke Koyama

Are we becoming a people of God? A people through whom God continues to work? Is love at work in us, so that others will remember us for the love of God we have, for one another and those around us?

As you continue throughout your week, may you carry the blessing of Romans 15:5-6: "[5] May the God of endurance and encouragement grant you to live in such harmony with one another, in accord with Christ Jesus, [6] that together you may with one voice glorify the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ."

Happy Tuesday! Wow! What a service Sunday! We thank you all for being part of it, and if you missed it, be sure to check the service link on this page, what a powerful time of prayer and praise to our King!

This week, we are in specific prayer for the Lord's vision for our people and church. Each day, leading up to September 12th, we are praying this prayer:

"Lord Jesus,
we confess that we do not have Your wisdom.
We have our own experiences,
our own preferences,
our own fears,
our own assumptions,
and our own ideas.
But today we lay them before You.
Give us wisdom.
Give us discernment.
Give us courage to hear what You say.
Give us humility to receive what we do not want to hear.
Give us faith to obey when You lead us somewhere unfamiliar.
Make us One in Christ.
Keep us from division.
Keep us from building our own kingdoms.
Show us where You are already working.
Show us the people You are calling us to love.
Show us the mission You have placed before us.
Give us wisdom.
And above everything else,
make us faithful to Jesus.
Amen."

This Sunday, Pastor Susie led us in an exercise in resting in God's Word, in going slowly through Scripture to practice hearing God speak to us about what we are reading. The Scripture focus was Matthew 15:21-28.

As we read through the passage three different times, Pastor Susie prompted three different questions:

1.) What word or phrase stands out to you?

2.) Is there an emotion or place you see yourself in this passage?

3.) What is God asking for you, or of you, OR, what is God offering to you, or for you?

For me, it stood out to me that the woman was begging (the word beg), and she was crying. I saw desperation, not unlike what brought me to Christ. But, when considering prompt three, I realized I wasn't thinking about my own coming to Christ, but how Christ calls us to respond to others who are desperate and desperately broken, in need of mercy and compassion.

To frame this better, yesterday morning I had also just finished the book of Obadiah (it's only one chapter😅), and in it, Edom stands as an image of our prideful human condition of all humanity. Israel was being rebellious to their God, and they had suffered painfully and been exiled. In the face of pain and suffering, Edom has a choice: to help and offer comfort, or to not. Edom does not. In fact, the nation rejoices in their pain, even though though they are related nations. There are throwbacks to Genesis here, where Cain refuses to be his brother's keeper. The point is, God was clearly showing me about how Godly response to those around us is compassion, even when (especially when!) they don't deserve it. It's what Christ gave to us, when we were yet sinners. And as we look more and more loke Him, we will be more an more compassionate.
