Unreal Expectations

Ministry is hard.....A grind especially when you really love God and His people. You will have a tendency to put undue expectations on yourself. Remember that you are made out of the same stuff that the people in the pews are made out of. You get tired, hungry, angry, disappointed, frustrated and weak. Remember that the church already has a spouse; a husband in fact and He already died for her. Be a steward/undershepherd and not a sugar daddy or the OTHER MAN in her life. Be an example of Godly character and conduct. This includes apologizing when you are wrong and walking in humility that endears people to you.. Let everything else take care of itself.

Realize that the people in the pews will forget that you are made out of the same stuff they are. Realize it for your family and prepare them as best you can. When their kids get in trouble they will want you to talk to the judge, pray and counsel their children, but when yours get into trouble "they should have known better because of who their parent(s) are. Do your best to always show your humanity as a person while understanding that the immature may not be able to handle the fact that you may drink wine on occasion (without getting inebriated) or you like other music other than GOSPEL.

Realize that the same people who call you crying about a whole range of things have the potential to use that SAME phone and call someone to talk about you. That may be an unreal expectation, but grace is your ability to do what you wouldn't normally be able to do by the power and might of His Spirit and now your own.

Suffering Is Neccessary

Now if I don't say anything else that's enough for you to understand, but allow me to give you the WHY.

1. Suffering Matures You

Whenever pain enters into your life it has a way of immediately focusing you. All games fall to the wayside because you can no longer afford to expend unnecessary time and energy on things, people and places that don't matter.

2. Suffering Establishes Your Anointing

God will send you through something so that the suffering gives your credibility to speak into the lives of other people whom God will call you to pastor. People need to know you aren't theoretical when you speak, but experiential. So this is the answer to your question of why am I going through all of this. It affects every area of your life. Your money, your kids, your marriage, your health. When God calls you there is nothing He won't touch to use later on. As me how I know?

#3 Suffering Qualifies You For Favor

The Bible says that after you've suffered awhile God himself will come and see about you; establish you and make you perfect. Whenever you suffer you are a candidate for the presence of God to come. When He comes favor comes. When He comes provision, protection, and a whole host of blessings come as well.

For the next few days I'm going to be sharing some thoughts about ministry and preaching. I'm in a transition where God is instructing me to open my mouth and pour out on those coming behind me.

Thought #1

As pastors and we have to remember that God always has another. We cannot allow ourselves to become so full of ourselves that we think God needs us. Don't believe me take a walk with me through the scriptures.

He told Joshua "Moses my servant is dead, as I WAS with Moses so shall I be with you."

He asked Samuel "How long will you mourn for Saul, since I have rejected him as king over Israel? Fill your horn with oil and be on your way; I am sending you to Jesse of Bethlehem. I have chosen one of his sons to be king.”

God always has another. In a day where leaders have/can become so arrogant as if God has no other options I'm thankful that He still employs me in the Kingdom.

I don't have to do preach, I GET to preach. I don't have to sing, I GET to sing. I don't have to serve, I GET to serve. AND......it is a privilege that I make a priority.

This is the humility that produces the POWER that we are missing. The power is the missing ingredient to the miracles we are missing.

Just some thoughts today as I reflect on almost 25 years of preaching ministry this December. I don't regret one thing I've gone through because it brought me to a place loving Him more everyday and wanting others to do the same.

Having a conversation about church hurt today. It is difficult because it's a real thing. We often hear about leaders who abuse their authority and this is truth.

The bible tells us in 1 Peter 5:3 not to be lords over God's people, but to be examples to them. Simply be a steward not an owner.

Having said this we also have to talk about how to those who have been hurt must repent for the sin of idolatry.

God said that we should have no other gods before Him. Anytime you place a man or a woman above God you have instantly (and in many cases) unknowingly made them an idol.

Since that man or woman is flesh the question is not if they will fall, disappoint or let you down; the question becomes when will they.

Since God is jealous He will allow this to happen to calibrate all involved so they will know that God is not a man and man is not God.

Please properly position all men and woman of God in your life, but dont make them God. This is how you stay free in your heart and spirit.

Just because you have a bad experience with one pastor doesnt mean ALL pastors are the same.

You may have a bad experience with a plumber while renovating your house but you dont say ALL plumbers are the same. You simply find one that will meet your need.

1 Timothy 2:2

It's still the standard for the believer. It applies even from last night to this morning.

Praying for Syria and the loss of life by the hands of President Assad. Praying for President Assad.

Praying for the minds, hearts, souls and for the protection of our service men and women of our nation.

Praying for President Trump and his cabinet that God would lead out in any decision that is made.

Praying for Congress that it would hear clearly, think bipartisan and act in the good will and fortune of the American people.

Praying for every spiritual leader that they would close their mouths, particularly on Facebook and any other social media outlet with emotional rhetoric and fall on their knees and hear from Heaven.

Praying for you that you may find comfort in knowing that God still reigns and His sovereignty has your safety covered.

The bottom line is I'm praying. This is my prayer everyday not just last night or this morning.
