A new bishopric was sustained and set apart in the Newport Beach 1st Ward today.   Tyler Waldron was called as Bishop, with Chad Christensen (l.) as 1st Counselor and Jared Davis (r.) as 2nd Counselor.  May God bless each of these good brothers as they begin their service.  And grateful thanks to Bishop Jeff and Sister Jennifer McAninich for five years of faithful leadership of the ward.

Placing his missionary pin deep in the heart of Texas, Elder Nixon Bean of the Newport Beach I ward was set apart last night as a full time missionary, called to serve in the Texas Austin Mission.  He will be in home MTC trading for one week before heading to Provo for his final training.  Supporting him at his setting apart were his father Nathan, mother Diana, brother Lincoln (who will be set apart in two weeks), sisters Kennedy and Reagan, and his grandparents, Steve and Callye Douglas.  The eyes of Texas are upon you Elder Bean!  God bless you as you begin your service!

Elder Ian Hanna returned home last night and was released as a full time missionary, serving in the Barbados Bridgetown Mission.  His mission covered 7 islands in the Caribbean and French Guyana in South America.  Elder Hanna is the youngest member of the amazing Hanna family; both of his parents and all six of his siblings are returned missionaries.! Welcoming him home were his grandmother, Pat, mother Tracy, “cousin” Simon, sister Lauren and nephew Julian, brothers Derek and Matthew, father Sean and brother Christopher.  Ian will speaking at 10:30 AM in the Newport Hills ward this Sunday.  Well done thou good and faithful servant — welcome home!!

Elder Garner Mabry of the Eastbluff Ward returned home today from two years of service in the Taiwan Taipei mission, where he taught in the Mandarin language.   Welcoming him at the airport were his sister Kate, dad Adam, mom Leana, and brother Harrison. He was released this afternoon and will report to the Stake Council on Sunday morning.  He will also speak in the Eastbluff Ward sacrament meeting at 12:40 PM this Sunday.  Welcome home Garner -- and thank you for your faithful and devoted service to the people of Taiwan!

Over 60 of our stake youth gathered tonight to hear first-hand accounts from seven of our recently returned missionaries.  Zach Jensen, John McPhie, Kylie Papa, Jeffrey Dangl, Jimmy Eastmond, Tommy Eastmond, and Brigette Terry (via video) shared their individual experiences in vastly different parts of the world. Each bore testimony of the Savior and of the joy of helping others to come unto Him.

Brother Bret and Sister Kimie Dandoy of the Newport Hills Ward were set apart tonight as full time missionaries, called to serve as Welfare and Self-Reliance Missionaries in the Malawi Lilongwe Mission.  This is the FIFTH mission for the Dandoys as a couple after previous assignments to Papua New Guinea, Egypt, Asia-Cambodia, and Mongolia-Malaysia.  Attending their setting apart were good friends Sean and Tracy Hanna, also of the Newport Hills Ward.  May the Lord bless and guide you in your selfless service and sacrifice in His behalf!

Another one of our noble missionaries has returned! Elder Jeffrey Dangl of the Newport Beach II ward arrived home yesterday from two years of service in the Chile Santiago South mission to a warm welcome at John Wayne Airport. On hand for his release last night were his grandmother, Sherry Kettley, uncle Rich Kettley, grandfather Dick Kettley, and his mother, Sherrilynne Dangl. His sisters, Katelynne and Rachel, participated via Zoom. Jeffrey will speak in the NB2 ward on August 9 at 11:15 PM and report to the Stake Council on August 23. Buen trabajo, Jeffrey! Bienvenido a casa!
