Genesis 1:1-2:4 - The Beginning 1 In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. 2 Now the earth was formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters. 3 And God said, “Let there be light,” and there was light. 4 God saw th...

Observing Trinity Sunday calls United Methodists to join with other Christians not only in celebrating this hallmark of Christian doctrine, but also in remembering and offering to others the most significant theological and practical hallmarks of Methodism itself...GOD IS LOVE. Therefore, United Methodists can and do watch over one another in love to cultivate perfection in love in this life.

Happy Birthday to the Christian Church! As a gift, Jesus descended to the dead for YOU!*

That's right, this past Sunday was Pentecost, the day on which the Christian church commemorates the coming of the Holy Spirit upon the apostles and others assembled in Jerusalem. It marks the beginning of the Christian church and the proclamation of its message throughout the world and is often referred to as the birthday of the church.

*Yes yes, not the exact order of things, but you get it.

Acts 2:1-36 Acts 2:1-36 - The Holy Spirit Comes at Pentecost 2 When the day of Pentecost came, they were all together in one place. 2 Suddenly a sound like the blowing of a violent wind came from heaven and filled the whole house where they were sitting. 3 They saw what seemed to be tongues of fire....

John Wesley was at a low point in early 1738 - after returning from his disappointing missionary efforts at the colony of Georgia in the New World - when he reluctantly attended a group meeting on the evening of May 24th on Aldersgate Street in London.

As he heard a reading from Luther's preface to the Epistle to the Romans, he felt his "heart strangely warmed."

I felt that God loved me,” he wrote in his journal. "I experienced that God loved me. It was no longer something that was in my head, but it’s something that I felt in my heart.”

Wesley was the son of a preacher and grew up in a devoutly religious home but the dynamic connection to God made at Aldersgate was new to him.

This re-awakening of faith may happen many times in a person’s spiritual journey. United Methodists set aside a day each year to celebrate the love of God in their own lives.
