Sixty years ago, the average family meal lasted around ninety minutes. Today, due to distractions, busyness, and screens, that number has dropped to less than twelve. In losing the table, we didn't just lose time, we lost connection, and the consequences are devastating.

Research from the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) shows that nearly one in five men is living with a mental illnes. Anxiety, depression, addiction, and su***de rates among men are climbing at alarming levels. In 2023, the CDC found that men died by su***de 3.8 times more than women. Behind those numbers is a quieter epidemic we don't talk about enough: loneliness.

The American Psychological Association reports that about half of U.S. adults say they feel isolated (54%), left out (50%, or lacking companionship (50%) at least some of the time... a sobering picture that leaves many without a single person they can turn to ... not a friend, not a brother, not even family

But here's the hard truth: healing cannot be found through hiding.

For years, we ve told men and women to get tougher, try harder, read another book, listen to another podcast, power through one more week. But what if the solution isn't just more motivation? What if it begins with something far more basic? Connection!

When the table all but disappeared, so did honest conversation. We have lost the sacred space where stories can be shared, prayers can be spoken, burdens can be carried, and brothers can be formed.

Connection builds resilience, presence creates safety, and community strengthens our faith.
