Newbury Park First Christian Church

Newbury Park First Christian Church Newbury Park First Christian Church (NPFCC) is an independent, non-denominational church. Whether you are a skeptic, seeker or believer, you are welcome here.

This congregation is a group of people who believe that Jesus Christ is God’s son, and who have accepted Him as Lord and Savior. We are forgiven sinners and willing servants seeking to grow in grace toward spiritual maturity. We have no creed but Jesus Christ, and the Bible is our guide. We strive to be Christians only, but recognize that we are not the only Christians. Our local fellowship is led

by men and women of faith under the guidance of the Holy Spirit. In matters of faith, we desire unity, in matters of opinion, we allow liberty, but in all things we seek to exhibit Christ-like love, for this is His church. We are a Restoration church, and strive to be like the church that existed during the first century – a time before denominations, hierarchies or creeds. The Restoration Movement began in the United States in the early 1800s. The leaders of this movement wanted to move beyond the differences that separate churches into denominations. They wanted to restore the church to a single body, and pattern it after the original church described in the New Testament. Membership in this congregation is by faith and commitment to Jesus Christ as God's Son and the Lord and Savior of one's life. This is expressed by repentance, confession, baptism.

This week Pastor Devan taught from Jesus' famous challenge to "love our enemies" in creative non-violent ways. There may be no greater example of this counter-cultural resistance than the Civil Rights Movement led my Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

In his book "Strength to Love”, Dr. King delivers one of the most profound statements on the heart behind his non-violent movement.

This movement put into tangible action what Jesus was really getting at in Matthew 5:38-44.

Turning the other cheek, giving our coat, and going the extra mile aren’t commands to sit passively or allow abuse to continue but are ingenious ways to confront the evil that exists in the word without fighting fire with fire.

What if the most dangerous thing you could do to your enemy… is love them?

Jesus doesn’t call us to be doormats. He calls us to something far more powerful - a love so radical it breaks the cycle of hurt, exposes injustice, and transforms enemies into family.

Do you want your enemy to know Jesus more than you want revenge?

You can be angry at someone’s actions…
without losing love for them as a person.

That may be where many of us miss the mark in representing Jesus well. Because Jesus showed righteous anger toward sin, injustice, hypocrisy, and harm — but He still deeply loved people.

If our anger stops seeing someone as a soul loved by God,
we’ve crossed into something else.

Refuse to let what they did control who you become. That’s not weakness. That’s the peacemaking of Jesus. 💪

“Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God.” — Matthew 5:9
Peacemaking isn’t passive. It’s courageous. And it starts with you.

What if the hardest season is actually the closest you’ve ever been to Jesus? 🙏 Suffering isn’t just something to survive - it’s where we meet Jesus on a new level knowing He too suffered for our sake.

The world says the winners are the strongest, the richest, the most powerful. But Jesus flips the whole scoreboard.

In God’s Kingdom, the weak, the broken, the grieving, and the outcast — those are the ones who win the day. Because God hit the inverse button on a hill called Calvary.

If you’ve ever felt like you don’t fit in, this message is for you. 🎯

Everyone is living for something.
Everyone has something — or someone — that shapes how they treat people, spend their money, handle conflict, love others.
Jesus called it a kingdom.
And he had a lot to say about which one has your heart.

This Sunday, Pastor Devan is going to share the most consequential piece of his story through a special message titled, “Lessons From My Thorn”.

Please make every effort to attend to support Devan as he vulnerably shares how the Lord has shaped him through this trial.

But our prayer is that we’d all come hungry and thirsty for the Kingdom to be manifest in our lives and in our church as we invite the “upside-down blessing” Jesus calls us to adopt. We believe this weekend can mark our church with power—not in the world’s way, but with Jesus’. So set aside any mask or pretense you’ve been carrying and prepare your heart to be open to a move of God.
