Parent Follow Up.
For the week of Nov 29, 2023

Dear parents,

We’ve wrapped up our “Bible 101” series, and our final conversation gave our teenagers a chance to move beyond the “intimidation factor” that Scripture holds for many of them.

We encouraged our young people to ask three specific questions when they read a passage of Scripture: How does this Scripture point me to Jesus, how does this Scripture connect to my life today, and how can this Scripture encourage another person? The first question looks upward, toward Christ. The second question looks inward, toward our heart. The third question looks outward, toward others. All three questions can help them read the Bible in a meaningful way.

This week, I encourage you to spend a few minutes talking with your teenager about our lesson. Here are some questions you might want to ask:
The more you know Scripture and absorb it into your life, the more it shapes who you are—give me an example of this from your life.
As you follow Jesus, how does Scripture help you travel on the right path?
Are you satisfied with how frequently you read the Bible? Why or why not?

Have an amazing week!

[MEMORY VERSE]

“Your word is a lamp to guide my feet and a light for my path” (Psalm 119:105).

For the week of Nov 8, 2023

Dear parents,

We’ve wrapped up our series called “God Is.” Each week, we looked at important characteristics of God and discussed how these traits invite us to know and love God more. Our teenagers talked about how these traits impact their relationship with Jesus.

In this final lesson, we explored Revelation 1:1-8, the opening verses of the book written by the Apostle John. John wrote down what he saw in a vision from Jesus, and these verses reveal how God is both timeless and present. Our world is always changing. But God never changes—he’s a constant that has always been, is relevant today, and always will be. God was in the past, is in the present, and will be in the future.

Take some time to continue this conversation with your teenager. Consider using these questions to get you started:
Do you believe that God is as involved in our lives today as he was in the lives of people in the Bible? Why or why not?
Which is easier for you: to trust Jesus with tomorrow or to trust him with your future many years from now? Why?
God was powerful enough to create the entire universe—yep, that’s a hard one to grasp—and God never changes. That means God still has infinite power. In what area of your life do you need some of God’s power right now?

Thanks for all your prayers for our ministry. Have an incredible week!

[MEMORY VERSE]

“ ‘I am the Alpha and the Omega—the beginning and the end,’ says the Lord God. ‘I am the one who is, who always was, and who is still to come—the Almighty One’ ” (Revelation 1:8).

Parent Follow Up
For the week of Nov 1, 2023

Dear parents,

We’re continuing our series called “God Is.” Each week, we’re discussing important character traits of God and how those traits invite us to know and love God more.

In this second lesson, we explored John 3:16-21, where Jesus talks about his purpose and summarizes his good news in a familiar verse—John 3:16. Jesus brought hope to an unfair world. We all have sinned. We have Adam and Eve to thank for that; their actions brought sin into the world. But through Jesus, we have the opportunity to be freed from the penalty of sin—separation from God. Jesus’ mercy doesn’t make his justice obsolete—by his Spirit, we can live in the tension between the righteousness of God and the mercy, grace, and forgiveness of God.

This week, I encourage you to spend a few minutes talking with your teenager about our lesson. Consider fueling your conversation with these questions:

How do you define justice?
How do you define mercy?
Tell me about a time when someone showed you mercy even though you didn’t deserve it. How did you feel?
How can thinking about both justice and mercy help you love and trust Jesus more?

Thanks for all you do to love, encourage, and support your teenager at home. Have a great week!

[MEMORY VERSE]

“God sent his Son into the world not to judge the world, but to save the world through him” (John 3:17).

Parent Follow Up.
For the week of Oct. 25, 2023

Dear parents,

We’ve started a new series called “God Is.” For the next three sessions, our teenagers will look at different character traits of God and how those traits invite us to know and love God more. We also will explore how these traits impact their relationship with Jesus.

In this first lesson, we will dig into Genesis 39, where Joseph experienced God’s presence in both the good (leading successfully) and the bad (being thrown in prison). God is everywhere and nearby. That may sound like a contradiction, but it shows us the beautiful character of God. God is near you when things are going well, as well as on the worst days.

Take some time to talk more with your teenager about this lesson. Use these questions to get started:

When do you feel God’s presence the most?
Tell me about a “God Sighting” from this past week or two—evidence that God has given you of his nearness.
When God feels distant, what helps you remember that he is actually near?

Know that I’m praying for you and your family. Have an amazing week!

[MEMORY VERSE]

“But the Lord was with Joseph in the prison and showed him his faithful love. And the Lord made Joseph a favorite with the prison warden” (Genesis 39:21).
