It’s been a while since I copped some good physical copies, and these right here are my latest additions to my collection…
Let me start by saying that all these projects are worth it $$—especially Rkitects' "The Deep End” 🔥🔥🔥—but Datin’s “The New Ark” hit different for me. It had me reminiscing a lot of my old hometown, Newark, Brick City.
It’s been a good minute since I’ve listened to a CHH album with more than 5 or 6 songs that actually minister to me in some kind of way. This is a very well-thought-out hip-hop project, and the way he masterfully ties everything together into one big story that takes you on a ride with him… It's dope.
I’ve easily run this album back 20+ times at work, with hella replays on certain joints just to make sure I didn’t miss anything. Without a doubt the brother went creatively crazy on this one. In my opinion, I think it's his best work to date, with "The Roar" album not too far behind but not to close either.
Let me be real though—at first, there were two or three joints on it where I was like, "meh." I tried hard not to like those tracks because the production wasn't the sound I usually like to vibe to, but later I gave them the benefit of the doubt. After a while, those bars in those songs had me locked in, and funny enough, those ended up becoming some of my favorite tracks. Songs that actually spoke to me and had me reflecting on some things… 🕊️ Funny how that works, 😉 lol. What I realized is you can’t really rock with just one part of his story without appreciating & loving the other pieces that bring it all together—that’s when it stops feeling like random songs and starts hitting like a full narrative... That’s rare to me.
Do y'all get that? Well, it makes sense to me. 😁 Because in the end, it all comes together into one big masterpiece.
I don’t even know if I’m doing it any justice explaining it like this—it’s something you have to hear for yourself… and I mean really listen.
Datin’s lyrical depth and the thematic consistency throughout the project with production & interludes all come together on point—dope from start to finish, down to his cover art.
Listen I normally don't do album reviews and I really don't consider this one, but not every album is meant to just be heard...some are meant to be followed, piece by piece, like a good story that actually sticks with you, feel me?
I truly believe this is Datin’s masterpiece, and I’m being as sincere as I can when I say that.
If we as believers today have taken the time to go out of our way to give credit to all these godless secular artists out there and their greatest hip-hop achievements, then I’m definitely gonna give flowers to this man of God for the labor of love that he put into this very dope project. "To God be all the glory."
Praying that God continues to use Datin and the Menace Gang to reach the masses with the truth of the Gospel.
