Anamchara Fellowship

Anamchara Fellowship A new expression of monasticism. Anamchara
[ah-nuhm-CAR-uh]
(n, Gaelic)
Translates to soul-friend, spiritual advisor, confidant, kindred spirit.

Founded in the tradition of the Episcopal Church, with a Celtic spirit, we are an inclusive community, welcoming all people: clergy and lay, married, single, or partners in a committed relationship. We are bound to each other by common ideals and a commitment to prayer and service; our primary ministries focus on retreats and quiet days, pastoral care, intercessory prayer and spiritual direction.

Each member must be self-supporting, and members of the Fellowship may live in their own homes or in groups as the ability for that arises. Anamchara Fellowship has received canonical recognition by the House of Bishops’ Committee on the Religious Life and are members of NAECC (National Association of Episcopal Christian Communities www.naecc.us). Professed members take vows of Simplicity, Fidelity, and Obedience, and all members of Anamchara Fellowship strive to live into the charisms of Hospitality, Generosity, Compassion, and Love. No person shall be denied access to the discernment process in this Order because of race, color, ethnic origin, national origin, s*x, marital status, s*xual orientation, gender identity and expression, disabilities or age. Incorporated in the State of Delaware, 501(c)3

If you have prayer requests that you would like the members of Anamchara Fellowship to keep in our daily intercessory prayers, please submit them by messaging the page administrators in order to protect your confidentiality. Please also feel free to message the administrators if you have any questions about Anamchara Fellowship.

The House of Bishops elected and House of Deputies affirmed the Rt. Rev. Sean Rowe as the next Presiding Bishop of the Episcopal Church!

Bishop Rowe, members of the Anamchara Fellowship are holding you and your family in prayer during this time of transition and preparation. May God bless you and our Church!

"This is your world O God, a gift of love from you.
We pray that we may faithfully serve you in all we do. Since all we have is yours, and bears deep love from you, bless us with care to gladly share your love as you would do."

- "An Offering" verse; Steve Garnaas-Holmes, unfoldinglight.net

The House of Bishops will be electing the next Presiding Bishop of the Episcopal Church, scheduled to begin tomorrow morning, June 26 at 10:30 AM ET. Let us pray for all those listening for God's will, and for those who have stepped out in faith as candidates:

The Rt. Rev. J. Scott Barker
The Rt. Rev. Dede Duncan-Probe
The Rt. Rev. Daniel G. P. Gutiérrez
The Rt. Rev. Sean Rowe
The Rt. Rev. Robert Wright

We also want to lift up a special prayer for Anamchara Fellowship's Bishop Visitor, the Rt. Rev. Diane Jardine Bruce, Secretary of the House of Bishops, who has worked tirelessly alongside her colleagues to prepare for this election.

"Almighty God, giver of every good gift: Look graciously on your Church, and so guide the minds of those who shall choose the next Presiding Bishop, that we may receive a faithful pastor, who will care for your people and equip us for our ministries; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen."

The Book of Common Prayer, "For the Election of a Bishop or Other Minister," p. 818

-----

I would like to extend my sincere apologies for the omission of Bishop Duncan-Probe when this was first posted; I was unaware of a fifth candidate nominated by petition and was going off of the list on the General Convention website.

Faithfully,

Sister Elizabeth Marguerite, AF

Hospitable God,
You enfold us.
Compassionate Jesus,
You uphold us.
Advocating Spirit,
You are the wind at our backs.
Trinity of Love,
because of You,
the universe exists
in all its unfathomable depths,
in all its meticulous detail.
What an astonishing thing to do,
what a labour of love.

The members of Anamchara Fellowship would deeply appreciate your prayers as many of us come together in Detroit tomorrow for our annual Gathering, which is a week of prayer, discernment, formation, fun, and work. We have a number of members attending virtually, and would appreciate your prayers for them as well, as we all strive to be in community across the country and the world.

Did you know that members of Anamchara Fellowship profess vows, much like traditional monastic communities? Professed members take vows of Simplicity, Fidelity, and Obedience. Novices (who just received the Habit) take them on as promised during their noviciate, a period of formation and discernment.

Here's a bit more about how we live our vow of Obedience:

- Following the Gospel imperatives of love and forgiveness.
- Working within the context of the Church to which the member belongs, seeing the leadership and Councils of the Church as guides.
- Listening for the voice of God in those placed in authority over us.

Here's a bit more about how we live our vow of Fidelity:

- Living with gentleness of manner towards everyone.
- Renouncing all physical and verbal control over others.
- Constancy toward the one with whom God has blessed us as partner or as Anamchara.
- Consciously striving after peace and mercy for all.

Here's a bit more about how we live our vow of Simplicity:

- Seeking to live without a spirit of accumulation.
- Using all things with gentleness and respect; developing a poverty of spirit whereby we grasp with heart and mind that all belongs to God.
- Becoming extravagant with our love and care towards others.
