How many times has someone said to you, “You will never know what it’s like until you try it”? There are some things worth trying such as a piece of chocolate cake. There are other things we need to leave alone. It is not meant for us to know what it is like to try them.

Genesis 2:16-17 reads: “And the Lord God commanded the man, saying, Of every tree of the garden thou mayest freely eat: But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die.” God told Adam, “Do not partake of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, or you will surely die.” Did you know God gives similar commands today?

We do not need to know what it is like to smoke a cigarette. We do not need to know what beer, wine, or whiskey tastes like. We do not need to know what it is like to have s*x outside of marriage. There are some places we do not need to go and some things we do not need to indulge in. We do not need to watch bad movies or go to questionable websites. Some things will leave an impression on our minds, and we will wish they were never put there. We can become addicted to sinful habits. They can put us under such bo***ge we will wish we never knew anything about them.

The serpent told Eve in Genesis 3:4-5: “Ye shall not surely die: For God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil.” The enemy gives the same lie today: “You can partake of that. It will not hurt you to try it one time. How will you know what it’s like if you don’t try it?” The devil was a liar from the beginning, but God cannot lie.

Adam and Eve died a spiritual death that day. They felt shame and fear for the first time. Their eyes were opened, and they saw they were naked. They no longer had fellowship with God. We can learn valuable lessons through what happened to Adam and Eve. God can keep us from many of the heartaches of life if we listen to His commands and refrain from indulging in what God says to leave alone.

1 Chronicles 16:11says, "Seek the Lord and his strength, seek his face continually.”

It is true that God will give us whatever we need, but the Bible says we must ask for it. If God just gave us everything we needed before we needed it, we would never learn to trust Him.

Our verse says, "Seek." Seeking is not looking once, and then giving up. To seek is to keep looking until you find it. If you are struggling to keep an attitude under, seek God.

Whatever you may be facing today, seek God.

Steadfast means "firmly fixed in place, immovable; not subject to change; firm in belief, determination, or adherence."

In Daniel 6:26, King Darius stated, "I make a decree, That in every dominion of my kingdom men tremble and fear before the God of Daniel: for he is the living God, and stedfast for ever, and his kingdom that which shall not be destroyed, and his dominion shall be even unto the end." It is wonderful to know God is steadfast and His kingdom is everlasting. He is unchanging in His Word, purpose, and commitment to those who love and obey Him. Malachi 3:6 says, "For I am the Lord, I change not."

Ruth 1:18, "When she [Naomi] saw that she [Ruth] was stedfastly minded to go with her, then she left speaking unto her." Ruth's mind was made up, and her heart was firmly fixed. She believed in the God Naomi served and wanted Him to be her God. Ruth was not going back to Moab. She was determined to go with God and God's people.

Acts 2:42, "And they continued stedfastly in the apostles' doctrine and fellowship, and in breaking of bread, and in prayers." The morning-time church understood the importance of continuing in the doctrines Jesus and His disciples taught. No matter how much they were persecuted, they would not recant, even unto death.

First Corinthians 15:58, "Therefore, my beloved brethren, be ye stedfast, unmoveable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as ye know that your labour is not in vain in the Lord." We are to be steadfast unto God and use our God-given abilities to further the Kingdom of God.

Second Peter 3:17, "Ye therefore, beloved, seeing ye know these things before, beware lest ye also, being led away with the error of the wicked, fall from your own stedfastness." Peter warned us to be careful not to fall from our steadfastness. Do not let the enemy of your soul steal your love, faith, hope, or joy. Continue in the Word and doctrine. Second Peter 1:10 states, "Wherefore the rather, brethren, give diligence to make your calling and election sure: for if ye do these things, ye shall never fall." Be steadfast in the faith.

Do you spend your time thinking about the future, worrying about what will happen? Are you anxious about a task at work or how something is going to turn out? Maybe you are carrying a heavy burden, waiting for results from blood work or just thinking about the next big decision in life. This is normal. You are not the only one struggling with day to day “what if’s.”

The enemy of your soul wants nothing more than for you to spend your time worrying about things you have no control over at that particular moment. God is faithful to renew your strength everyday.

Lamentations 3:22-23 reads: “It is of the Lord’s mercies that we are not consumed, Because his compassions fail not. They are new every morning: Great is thy faithfulness.” I would like to paraphrase these verses in a more personal way: “The Lord does not want you to be consumed with worry because He cares. He has compassion for you and will not fail. His mercies are renewed every morning. He is faithful.”

You will not have grace for particular situations until you need it. You cannot handle the things you worry about before they happen. If the things you worry about actually become present in your life, the Lord will give you power to go through them. The Lord does not give you a big bundle of mercy upfront. He distributes His mercy every day and is faithful to be present when you need Him.

During the times we need a specific kind of grace, God’s mercy never fails, and He will carry us through. The time we spend worrying is for nothing. Matthew 6:34 reminds us, “Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself.” When you are tempted to worry, let the enemy know tomorrow has not come. When it does, the Lord will give you the grace needed to get you through.

The Bible says, “Out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaketh.” The enemy can work on God’s people causing them to say something they should not say. Our words reveal what is already working in the heart. It could be a bad attitude or pride.

Hebrews, Chapter 12, talks about the chastisement of the Lord. God disciplines those He loves. Proverbs 3:11 says, “My son, despise not the chastening of the Lord; Neither be weary of his correction.” It never feels good, but 2 Corinthians 7:11 says, “What clearing of yourselves.” It causes us to pray more, live with more fear of God in our lives, and take special care to guard our hearts! We would be in bad shape if God did not continually work with us every day, showing areas we need improvement.

Romans 12:3 says we should not think more highly of ourselves than we ought to think. We are NOTHING and can do NOTHING without God. If we are not careful, we can become presumptuous in our thinking. We can presume things are true that are not. 2 Corinthians 10:5 tells us to cast down imaginations. We can also presume we have “arrived” in our spiritual walk and will always say and do the right things.

We are commanded to “pray without ceasing.” Whenever we attempt to do anything, or think we are in control of others or the situations at hand, we will fail. If we have a position in God’s church, it is because God has placed us there. He has confidence in us not to presume it is our position to do as we please and not listen to God.

Second Peter 2:10 says, “Presumptuous are they, [and] selfwilled.” Presumptuous means bold, daring to foolishly ignore what should make us afraid. It is taking liberties that are not ours to take, placing self-will above the will of God. Self should never be promoted in anything we do! Are you doing what you do for self to be recognized or noticed? Maybe you just want others to “appreciate” you. I am fearful of that ugly spirit because it can work on me. None of us are immune. We must keep God first in ALL we do!

Jesus said in Luke 8:8, “He that hath ears to hear, let him hear.” Jesus made this statement quite often throughout the Gospels and in Revelation when He spoke to the churches in Asia. Many things are said about being a productive speaker, but what about a productive listener? Psalm 40:1 says the Lord “heard my cry.” We want the Lord to listen when we cry and give Him our burdens and requests. Not only do we desire for Him to hear, but we expect Him to understand and give us an answer.

Everyone wants to be heard when they have something to say. Sometimes, we may get into a discussion with someone who dominates the conversation. It is frustrating when we have something to say but the other person is intent on doing all the talking. Is this how we treat God? Are we intent on dominating the conversation and not allowing God to say anything? He has something to say, but are we too busy telling God what we think and how He should answer?

Psalm 40:6 says, “Sacrifice and offering thou didst not desire; Mine ears hast thou opened.” God wants us to listen closely to Him. Those who have ears to hear are those who pay close attention to what God is saying, listening intently to understand, giving careful consideration, and taking heed.

James 1:22 says, “But be ye doers of the word and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves.” Upon listening to God, we must follow through with the instructions He gives. Jesus said in the parable of the sower we would bring forth fruit if we hear the Word and keep it.

Proverbs 1:5 says a wise man will hear and increase in learning. We need to ask God for “ears to hear” what He has to say. “He that is of God heareth God’s words” (John 8:47). Be more ready to listen than to speak. God speaks through His Word.

First Corinthians 13:1 says, “Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, and have not charity, I am become as sounding brass, or a tinkling cymbal.”

There are believed to be more than seven thousand languages spoken around the world today. Although the idea is essentially impossible, imagine a person who could speak each of these languages in the most elegant, composed, fluent, clear, and confident of manners. Suppose they could also speak with the voice of an angel, however that may sound.

This person would be highly esteemed, and we would expect them to accomplish much for the benefit of society. They would be able to cross social barriers and bring people together. People spend a great deal of effort and money to hear a distinguished speaker. They would be asked to deliver the keynote address at every major event around the world and would draw enormous crowds. They could make a fortune in a variety of other means such as a translator, voice actor, radio personality, or performer. However, the Bible says that all this, without love, is just noise.

There is not a person on earth with the capabilities of the character we just imagined. Yes, there have been many prominent speakers and philosophers through history, but few have made a significant difference. Why? First Corinthians 13:9 tells us that “whether there be tongues, they shall cease.” In other words, there is a time when words end or become insufficient. Tongues cease, but love is understandable to all. If you were placed in a remote village in Africa, the locals would not understand your speech and you would not understand theirs, but they can understand how you make them feel.

You may not be trying to communicate with a person who speaks another language, but you may find yourself in a more difficult situation than that. Sometimes, it seems you cannot get through to those around you, even the closest of your friends and relatives. You may speak the Gospel message until you are “blue in the face,” but there is no positive response or change. Make sure your words are paired with love, because love can reach the places words cannot.

Have you ever called out for someone, and they didn’t answer you? Why did no one answer? Was it because they weren't present, you were in the wrong place, or there were ill feelings between you?

Have you ever seen a parent call for their child and the child happily comes to them? Or how about the opposite, when the child hangs their head and doesn't come? The difference is a clear conscience!

Did you know that God will not answer every time someone calls Him?

Many people today say they will pray for you or they "say grace" before their meals or they cry, "Oh God" in times of trouble. However, God is more than just an accessory to make us look like a good person. He is more than a tool for times of trouble.

God is a real Person with feelings. He wants to have an everyday and every moment relationship with us!

In Isaiah 58, the prophet scolds the people because they fasted and prayed for the wrong reasons. Isaiah tells them the proper reasons for fasting. Verse 9 says, "Then [after fasting for the Lord's reasons] shalt thou call and the Lord will answer; thou shalt cry, and he shall say, Here I am.”

We shouldn't just live right because it's right; we should live right because we see the purpose and the good it brings to others. We need to feel the burden for lost souls behind every word and deed in our lives. “And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men (Colossians 3:23). Then, we can come “boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need” (Hebrews 4:16) and hear our Lord say, "Here I am.”

Over 130 years ago, a young man in West Africa escaped captivity from a neighboring tribe and ran through the jungle until he reached the city of Monrovia. There, he met a missionary who told him of Jesus, and this young man gave his heart to God. His name was Samuel Morris.

Samuel had a strong desire to go to America and learn more about the Holy Spirit so he could return and tell his people about God. Though penniless, God provided a way to America, and soon Samuel was enrolled at Taylor University. Morris' strong faith in God seemed to affect all who knew him. Often, he could be heard in his dorm room "talking to my Father.”

After coming down with a severe cold, Samuel
died. His desire to take the Gospel back to Africa
was fulfilled, but not in the way he had planned.
Many young people were so inspired by Samuel's faith that soon after his death, they felt the call to be missionaries in Africa. Through Samuel's "bonds" (illness and death), many were "much more bold to speak the word without fear.”

The Apostle Paul was in prison when he wrote at least four of the Epistles. It might have seemed that his "bonds" (imprisonment) were hindering him from doing God's work. Yet, Paul understood God had something far greater in mind. Through Paul's "bonds," many Christians were strengthened ("waxing confident").

What "bonds" might you be dealing with today?
Persecution, afflictions, trials, or loss of a loved
one can be devastating! You might think: "Why
would God let these things happen to me?
Doesn't He know how much they are hindering
me?" The lives of the Apostle Paul and Samuel
Morris remind us God sees the WHOLE picture.
He knows that MANY can be encouraged and
become bolder for Him by our "bonds." We must let God do His perfect work.

"In God's economy, nothing is wasted! Not our
time, not our sacrifice, not our life" (Author Unknown).

The Bible makes it clear we need to be careful and watch “lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices” (2 Corinthians 2:11). If the devil had his way, we would all be condemned instead of blessed.

Condemned are those who are rich and feel they have no need for God, for they know not how miserable and needy they truly are without Him.

Condemned are those who live only for the moment and never prepare for eternity, for they know not that now is the accepted time and today is the day of salvation.

Condemned are the arrogant in heart, for they know not that the Lord resists the proud.

Condemned are they which hunger and thirst after the things of this world, for they know not that they shall be filled with their own devices.

Condemned are those who seek revenge for wrongs done against them, for they know not that the Lord has said, “Vengeance is mine, I will repay.”

Condemned are the impure in heart, for they know not that the Lord shall give them a reprobate mind.

Condemned are the gossipers, backbiters, and those who are busybodies in other men’s affairs, for they know not they have become idle in the things of God.

Condemned are those who refuse the call of God, for they know not that the Lord will laugh at their calamity and mock when their fear comes.

Condemned are the hypocrites, for they know not that their hope has perished.

Condemned are the unmerciful, for they know not that if they refuse to forgive others, the Lord will not forgive them.

There will be no rejoicing for those who heed Satan’s advice, for they shall be cast into outer darkness, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.

Let us be wise and seek God with our whole heart. The Bible tells us the fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom.
