The Episcopal Church

The Episcopal Church The Episcopal Church welcomes all who worship Jesus Christ and comprises 106 dioceses and one mission area across 22 countries or territories.

While The Episcopal Church is headquartered in New York City, we are not a national church—we are a multinational denomination. As the only U.S.-based member of the worldwide Anglican Communion, The Episcopal Church is part of the world’s third-largest group of Christians and currently has more than 1.6 million members. We are denominational descendants of—and partners with—the Church of England a

nd the Scottish Episcopal Church. The mission of the church, as stated in the Book of Common Prayer’s catechism, is “to restore all people to unity with God and each other in Christ.”

In step with that mission, The Episcopal Church follows Jesus into loving, liberating, and life-giving relationships with God, with each other, and with the earth. We are the Episcopal branch of the Jesus Movement.

As Pride month begins, save the date for a gathering commemorating the 50th anniversary of the 1976 General Convention resolution declaring that LGBTQ+ people have a full and equal claim to the pastoral care and support of The Episcopal Church. The event, “Full and Equal: 50 Years in Pursuit of a Promise,” will celebrate progress and acknowledge the work that remains.

The three-day gathering, held in Minneapolis, Minnesota, Sept. 3-5, will include storytelling coaching, workshops, a banquet, and a Eucharist featuring Presiding Bishop Sean Rowe as presider and Bishop Gene Robinson as preacher. Spanish-language interpretation will be available.

More registration details will follow. Please save the date and help spread the word.

A new three-session, video-based course about baptism, Eucharist, and the church’s sacramental rites is available for download or streaming with accompanying study guides. “Signs and Grace: An Introduction to the Sacraments” marks the first video collaboration between The Episcopal Church and Forward Movement in a partnership designed to provide free formation resources for dioceses and congregations.

The course—which includes 45- or 60-minute options, with facilitator and participant guides—is ideal for newcomer classes, adult forums, Sunday school, small groups, and those preparing for confirmation. The three 20-minute-long videos are in English with Spanish subtitles, as well as the study guides.

Today we marvel at the God who spoke light and life into existence, who formed us in the divine image and crowned us with glory and honor. The whole of creation bears witness to the Trinity, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, whose love and grace are woven into every corner of the cosmos. Jesus sends us out into that same creation with a great commission: to make disciples, to baptize, to teach, and to trust that he is with us always, to the end of the age.

The collects for the first part of the Season after Pentecost were designed by Summerlee Walter, communications coordinator at the Episcopal Diocese of North Carolina. During her 15-year career as a communicator in The Episcopal Church, she has helped more than 130 churches and dioceses build and refine their communications strategies and channels, invite their communities in, and spread the Good News.

Join us each week as we share new prayers for the vulnerable among us facing challenges, fears, and threats. We will name many of the harms unfolding and acknowledge what is being erased, lost, and threatened.

These prayers are not a replacement for action; they are meant to offer space for grounding and discernment as we seek to bear one another’s burdens in the love and way of Christ.

On this day, the Spirit is poured out, opening the way of life to every people and every place. The breath of God fills the church, sending us out to proclaim, to serve, and to love in ways that renew the world. We pray that this gift would be kindled in us again, that we may share in the life of the Holy Spirit and bear it to the ends of the earth.

---------
