750 CE – The expanding Islamic civilization enlarges the sacred mosque, creating the first major sanctuary around the Kaaba.
1700 CE – Ottoman rulers enhance Masjid al-Haram with elegant arches, domes, and towering minarets.
1990 CE – Large-scale modern developments begin to accommodate the rapidly growing number of pilgrims visiting Mecca each year.
2012 CE – The iconic Abraj Al Bait Clock Tower becomes a defining feature of the city’s skyline.
