Saint Mother Teresa of Calcutta (B)

Patronage: World Youth Day, the sick and dying, the lonely, the unborn
Born Anjezë Gonxhe Bojaxhiu, Mother Teresa left home at age 18 to join the Sisters of Loreto as a missionary. She took her solemn vows on 14 May 1937, while serving as a teacher at the Loreto convent school in Entally, eastern Calcutta. She began her missionary work with the poor in 1948, joined by a group of young women, and laid the foundations to create a new religious community helping the "poorest of the poor". At the time of her death, Mother Teresa's Missionaries of Charity had over 4,000 sisters, and an associated brotherhood of 300 members, operating 610 missions in 123 countries. Mother Teresa was the recipient of numerous honors including the 1979 Nobel Peace Prize.

Honoring the 25th Anniversary of 9/11
This past Sunday, the NYPD Emerald Society was honored to be welcomed to Saint Barnabas Church by Father Brendan Fitzgerald to host a Memorial Mass commemorating the 25th anniversary of the September 11, 2001 attacks on the World Trade Center.
The NYPD Emerald Society was joined by members of the New York City Fire Department, MTA Police Department, Brewster Fire Department, and New Haven Police Department as we came together to remember and honor the lives lost on that tragic day.
Following a blessing by Father Fitzgerald, a wreath was laid at the Sean Tallon Memorial in honor of Sean Tallon, a Saint Barnabas parishioner and FDNY firefighter who made the ultimate sacrifice on September 11, 2001.
The procession into the main church was led by the Iona University Pipe and Drum Band, as members of the Emerald Society and our fellow first responders gathered for the 11:45 a.m. Memorial Mass.
We will Never Forget the men and women who lost their lives, the families who continue to carry their memory, and the countless first responders who answered the call.
