A soulish person will never give up the comforts of worldly life for Christ’s sake in times of persecution. His mind is so deceitful that there is no sin he would not find a way to justify. Many soulish people will even love animals more than human beings. The Lord is always seeking among people those who are able to perceive the spiritual....But when the Holy Spirit enters the heart, and a person tastes the Grace of God, he will never again wish to exchange it for the illusion of worldly happiness. Wounded in the heart by love for Christ God, he constantly longs for and seeks the Beloved, finding no rest day or night. And to such as these it is said:“He who seeks, finds, and to him who knocks, it shall be opened.”
