Слава Ісусу Христу!
Glory to Jesus Christ!

The Ukrainian Autocephalous Orthodox Church decries the deliberate attack on the historic Kyiv Pechersk Monastery (Monastery of the Caves) carried out last night by the Russian aggressors.

These are photos sent by one of our priests, who received them from friends who reside in Kyiv, near the Monastery.

The Cathedral of the Dormition of the Mother of God, the oldest temple in Kyiv was particularly damaged, in addition to residential buildings nearby.

This sanctuary is the most ancient spiritual place in Ukraine and the site where many saints and other monastics lived, prayed and labored. It is imported to all Christians, but especially to Ukraine and also of course, to Russia, which takes its spiritual and cultural identity from Kyiv.

The Monastery of the Caves is where SS Antony and Theodosius first established the monastic life in the Ukrainian land.

We pray to Almighty God for an end to this war of aggression against Ukraine and a just and lasting peace in our ancestral and spiritual homeland. We also call for an end to acts of violence, war, aggression and persecution being carried out against people throughout the entire world.

May the God of peace and benevolence send his great and abundant mercies upon all of us

Слава Україні! Glory to Ukraine!

With Archpastoral Blessing,
+ Metropolitan Mykhayil

“50 days following Pascha, something happened to the disciples of Christ and changed them into different people … Everything we do in life is because of the action and the grace of the Holy Spirit … We are all sons and daughters of the church … products of our own free will to join a community of faith.”

“We do and we should have the ability to examine our faith, our religion, in the light of what’s going on today and whether it is right or wrong. The church is a guide, but our minds are also a guide and the Gospels a map which we use to walk along this life that Jesus left for us, in union with him. The Ascension into heaven was not the end of Jesus’s ministry, but it continues to inspire through the words and preaching of his followers.”
