Community of Our Lady of Peace NYC Restore the parish & reopen the Roman Catholic Church of Our Lady of Peace, New York City! There is a pending Vatican appeal. Our Lady of Peace was one of them.

Cardinal Dolan closed the church on July 31, 2015, then leased it in March 2017. Click SIGN UP to petition Pope Francis. The Roman Catholic Church of Our Lady of Peace, New York City was founded by Italian immigrants from Sicily and Northern Italy. The first pastor, Father Filippo Leone, was born in Prizzi in the province of Palermo province. Citizens of Borgetto, Sicily built a small chapel and s

tained glass window dedicated to the Madonna di Romitello. Many immigrants came from the province of Parma, where a strong Bedoniese community settled on the Upper East Side of Manhattan. One of the parishioners created a small chapel on the left of the church to the Madonna di San Marco, the patroness of the Basilica in Bedonia. The Church of Our Lady of Peace was dedicated on April 13, 1919, by Cardinal Hayes and named for the peace that followed the First World War. In November 2014, Cardinal Dolan decided to merge many parishes in the Archdiocese of New York. It was slated to be closed by August 1, 2015. Parishioners mounted a huge effort to save the parish and church, including an appeal to the Vatican. After its closure, it was open only on a few occasions - the destination wedding of a couple from Ireland in September 2015 and three funeral Masses of parishioners who died in 2016. The church was leased to the Coptic Orthodox in March 2017, while the Vatican appeal advanced to the Apostolic Signatura. Then, in May 2017, parishioners were able to have the 98th Anniversary Mass, celebrating the dedication of the church - a Mass they were denied in 2016. Parishioners continue their outreach to the community by holding occasional special events and liturgical services, quarterly meetings, and the continuous 54-Day Miraculous Rosary Novena to Our Lady and Evening Prayers, held outside the church at 6 PM since the church was closed. Outreach through social media has grown exponentially with more than 14,000 followers and supporters on Facebook throughout the world. Our Lady of Peace has a mission to be a Marian Center for Peace! Parishioners raised enough funds to support the church for 10 years in order to demonstrate to the Vatican the strength and solvency of the parish.

When Christ shall come, with shout of acclamation
And take me home, what joy shall fill my heart
Then I shall bow, in humble adoration
And then proclaim, my God, how great Thou art…
Then sings my soul, my Savior God to Thee
How great Thou art, how great Thou art
Then sings my soul, my Savior God to Thee
How great Thou art, how great Thou art
How great Thou art, how great Thou art!

Fifteenth Sunday in Ordinary TIme
DId we need a pandemic to realize that we are called?
In the Gospel, the 12 apostles are literally called, and sent, by Jesus. There’s no question what He is calling them to do. He summons them and then He sends them out, two by two. He gives them specific instructions about what they are to do and how to do it.How often do we think about the fact that we are called? Each day when we open our eyes and a new day has dawned for us, we are called. We are called to rise, and then we are called to do something, often many things. Most days we have a to-do list a mile long and obligations that we take for granted, at work and/or at home. The abrupt closing of our parish was a theological kick in the head to most of us. We learned skills about praying in the street, on the phone and sought fellowship in what we did. We’re we being trained to deal with the subsequent six years have brought to us? I can say that our on line Parish has requested prayers, be challenged physically, emotionally and spiritually or better put- we have been humbled by our circumstance and rely on our faith more than ever. our two responses are “God is Good and Merciful, and God Bless Us Everyone”. Not bad for second third and fourth generation immigrants. Not bad for the Upper East Side of Manhattan. However necessary Here and Now!
that all are created equal and can succeed. All is quiet at Our Lady of Peace and our community still prays that one day we will go back inside the church of our families. Faith is said to be able to move mountains- we can be patient and loving. Today we ask that each person becomes enlightened yes, each and every one of us. With our Holy Mother as our advocate. We Pray . God Bless Us Everyone .

Fourteenth Sunday in Ordinary TIme
Independence Day
The words from the Gospel today are perfect for July 4th.
“A prophet is not without honor except in his native place
and among his own kin and in his own house.”
He was amazed at their lack of faith. How many of us can credit our families, our faith and the fear of disappointing those who loved us for our success? I know whatever we accomplished was in our power, however if left to the neighbor devices we would be know (as was Jesus) by our fathers and mothers. To this day I can meet someone from OLP and be referred to who my parents were and the ordinal position of my birth. So we should be able to understand that Jesus preaching in the Temple did shock those who only knew of his carpenter father and his mild mannered mother- but as we as second, third and fourth generation children knew we loved our parents and families yet we were expected to leap beyond their circumstance. The pride in our accomplishments was limited to the neighborhood- outside of our neighborhood we were just kids from OLP or OLPH. So today say a special prayer for those who inspired your success, those who took away the limits on what you could achieve and remember the wonderful combination of faith, family and being raised in the USA where it was acknowledged that all are created equal and can succeed. This is definitely a day and time in history to pay it forward.
Coming on 6 years- all is quiet at Our Lady of Peace and our community still prays that one day we will go back inside the church of our families. Faith is said to be able to move mountains- we can be patient and loving. Today we ask that each person becomes enlightened yes, each and every one of us. With our Holy Mother as our advocate. We Pray . God Bless Us Everyone

THIRTEENTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME
God is the champion of life
We’re made for immortality. Christianity celebrates that death has no sting and life has no end. Our tenacious possession of the lives we’re given is a sign of our refusal to accept death as the last word on the subject of our lives. We’re impatient with limitations, reject gloom-and-doom projections, and insist on second opinions when the news is grim. We relentlessly cling to hope despite the odds of our predicament. God is on our side in this stubborn grip we have on life. God intends for death itself to pass away. Put your resources at the service of life.
We are comforted by our community caring for and sharing faith. There are still candles and flowers on the steps. We are the church on the street- we personify the idea of the apostles by being roaming Catholics- we do not fear talking about our faith and will not ever abandon one of our community. We Pray .
