“Alleluia! Sing to Jesus!” 🎶🙏

During the 11:00 AM Mass on August 2, our community joined together in singing “Alleluia! Sing to Jesus!” as the Post-Communion Hymn.

Written by William C. Dix and sung to the tune Hyfrydol, the hymn invites us to praise Christ, our eternal King, and to carry the joy of the Eucharist with us beyond the celebration of Mass.

The music of the liturgy was led by our cantors, John Bowles, Kite Shepherd, and Michael Vallikappil, with Preston Smith, Ascension’s Director of Music.

We are grateful for the voices of our whole community joining together in song. 🎶🙏

“¡Aleluya! ¡Cantemos a Jesús!” 🎶

“Listen to him.”

Today, we celebrate the Feast of the Transfiguration of the Lord. On the mountain, the disciples were given a glimpse of Christ’s glory before the difficult journey that awaited them.

As Fr. Daniel Kearney reflects in this week’s Pastor’s Column, the Transfiguration reminds us that darkness does not have the final word. God continues to work quietly in the ordinary moments of our lives through prayer, the Eucharist, forgiveness, acts of kindness, and the love we share with one another.

Today at the Church of the Ascension:

12:00 noon: English Mass
7:00 p.m.: Misa en Español
7:30–9:00 p.m.: Spanish Emaus men’s and women’s groups

“God does not begin by saying, ‘Prove yourself or earn your place or get your life together first.’ He simply says, ‘Come.’”

In his homily at the 11:00 AM Mass on August 2, Fr. Daniel Kearney reflected on the wideness of God’s invitation. It is offered to everyone who thirsts for peace, forgiveness, hope, friendship, purpose, justice, or simply to be seen.

May we remember this week that God does not ask us to put our lives in order before coming to him. He invites us to come and receive life.

💙🙏

“Even a small commitment of your time can make a meaningful difference.”

Today, Monday, August 3, we begin an additional monthly Food Pantry distribution at the Church of the Ascension. As food insecurity continues to affect many in our community, this ministry will now also serve our neighbors on the first Monday of every month.

During Sunday’s announcements, Fr. Kearney invited young adults ages 18–35 to consider joining this ministry of service. If you are available today, we would be grateful to have you with us.

📍 Please meet at the Church of the Ascension around 5:00 PM.

Together, we can share Christ’s love in a simple and tangible way. 💙
