Dear Friends,

It is with a heavy heart that we write to say Kylie Mae Wolfe, the Wolfe family’s beloved Labrador Retriever, died peacefully at home, surrounded by her family. She was Ellen’s devoted companion and accompanied her tirelessly wherever she went.

Kylie came to the Wolfe household 15 years ago and brought much joy to the family. She enjoyed eating every meal she was ever fed, long walks in Central Park, and making new friends with other dogs. A life-long Democrat, Kylie felt strongly about any candidate who did not love pets.

Kylie was deeply committed to The Episcopal Church and spent many hours sleeping in diocesan and parish offices. She was particularly devoted to Saint Francis Day celebrations and enjoyed being blessed annually.

May Kylie rest in the blessed assurance that she brought joy and love to her human companions.
We will miss her enormously.

It was a joy to celebrate the Eucharist with Holy Land pilgrims from ST. BART'S-New York City in Emmaus. (Thanks to Bailey Regan for her assistance!) Our 11 day trip, with stays in Jerusalem and Nazareth, was a deeply meaningful experience for each of our 24 pilgrims.

Episcopalians affirm that all human life is sacred and we are committed to the care of every life, including the lives of children, mothers, and those who choose to have abortions.

Dear Friends, I’ve been told that clergy should stay out politics.  But I believe it’s really the other way around. It’s politicians who should stay out of religion!  The separation of church and state outlined in our...

I have been a member of the House of Bishops in The Episcopal Church for nearly twenty years. When I was first elected a bishop, the House was deeply divided over issues surrounding the election of the Right Reverend Gene Robinson. The full inclusion of LGBTQ+ people was hotly debated in my early years in the House of Bishops, which was then largely made up of white men like myself. This week, I looked around the room and gave thanks for the growing number of women, people of color, and people from the LGBTQ+ community who have been elected bishops. I gave thanks for the candid and tender conversations we had regarding the protection of trans youth. I gave thanks that we were talking with a diversity of voices in the room as opposed to talking about them.

As it turns out, crusty old institutions like the House of Bishops (and The Episcopal Church) can and do change. This past week I saw clear evidence of the evolution of the House of Bishops, and the Church it strives to serve. I could not have been prouder. To paraphrase the old gospel hymn, “There was a sweet, sweet Spirit...”

This summer, bishops and deputies representing dioceses from across our denomination will gather in Baltimore, Maryland for the 80th General Convention of The Episcopal Church. Too much time will be spent on trivial resolutions and some of the work will feel like we are rearranging the deck chairs on the Titanic. Still, the Spirit will be present, and the possibility of transformative change will always be somewhere on the agenda.
