The Episcopal Urban Caucus

The Episcopal Urban Caucus The purpose of the Episcopal Urban Caucus is to be an instrument of the Gospel exercising radical discipleship in Church and Society.

The purpose of the Episcopal Urban Caucus is to be an instrument of the Gospel exercising radical discipleship in Church and Society, and to hold the feet of the Episcopal Church to the fire of social justice. The EUC is committed to advocacy, strategy and action that influence the Episcopal Church’s priorities and decisions regarding anti-racism, peace and war, poverty, hunger and other issues th

at adversely affect the inclusion of any persons in the life of the Church. The Caucus embraces and supports youth and young adults in all its ministries and activities. It welcomes participation with, and support from The Episcopal Network for Economic Justice, Jubilee Ministry, the Anti-Racism Program, The Consultation, the Peace Policy Network and other groups and networks that share its vision. The EUC serves as a network bringing into relationship individuals and organizations that promote the progressive agenda of the Church through an annual Assembly with focused workshops, dynamic speakers and preachers, site visits to exemplary models of urban ministry and learning tracks that effect positive change. The EUC offers an email format, an issue focused newsletter and a website for purposes of communication and to assist persons and organizations in making connections with causes of mutual concern. Realizing that today’s rural poor will become tomorrow’s urban poor and that the lines of suburbanites are determined by cities, the Caucus works to include all populations in its commitment and advocacy. The Episcopal Urban Caucus strives to model inclusiveness and to embody respect for every living person in its worship and programs. Beyond this, it is committed to more visible advocacy through its newsletter, The Urban Networker, and through occasional publications such as, To Heal the Sin Sick Soul. The Caucus takes seriously its commitment to be an effective proactive voice in the life of the Church and an ally with other progressive forces.

The Episcopal Urban Caucus – unable to meet in person because of COVID 19 held a successful virtual Assembly in Memphis, TN. We have always featured the installation of the Saints of the EUC at our annual Assembly, however, because we were not meeting in person, we were unable to conduct the appropriate ceremonies.

As we begin this year, we are sharing the photos and biographies of those Saints. They represent individuals whose call to urban ministries in our cities and to the ongoing struggle to “strive for justice and peace among all people and respect the dignity of every human being” have been the bedrock of the Episcopal Urban Caucus and of their own personal ministries.

We invite you to visit our website, read their bios and join us in the celebration of their lives by viewing our saints page here:
