The Rock - Lessons From The Life of Peter - Week 1

Main Focus: God calls us to follow Him and leave behind our “old life”!
Power Verse: “So you cannot become my disciple without giving up everything you own.” -Luke 14:33
Whatchagaddaknow: “If I’m Gonna Follow Jesus, Gotta Give Him My All”
Scripture: Simon Peter is Called (Luke 5:1-11)

Summary:

Peter was just an average, ordinary guy. He was a fisherman by trade, and he knew nothing but fishing. That is, until Jesus called him to become a follower.
Peter had to be willing to leave behind everything he had worked his whole life to build. He dropped his nets, left his fishing business, and followed Jesus everywhere He went for the next three years.

The children learned that God wants to use average, ordinary people to do BIG things for Him. If they are willing to give up their dreams for God’s dreams and leave their “old life” behind, God can use them to change the world—just as He did with Peter.

Hey! Can I Ask You A Question? - When Is Jesus Coming Back?

Main Focus: Jesus could return at any time to take all Christians to Heaven.
Power Verse: “So you, too, must keep watch! For you do not know the day or hour of my return.” -Matthew 25:13
Whatchagaddaknow: “When’s He Coming? I Don’t Know! Gotta Get Ready To Go!”
Scripture: Jesus Predicts His Return (John 14:1-7; Acts 1)

Summary:

When is Jesus coming back? It’s the only question that we ask in this series where the answer is, “We don’t know.”

The Bible says that “no man knows the day or the hour” when Jesus will return to take God’s children to Heaven, where we will forever be with Him.

Each Christian should live their lives daily as if it could be their last, for the return of our Lord and Savior could come at any moment.

In this lesson, the children will learn that Christians must be ready, living each day with the intent of accomplishing as much as they can for Jesus, knowing that He will soon be returning to take us all to Heaven to be with Him forever.

Hey! Can I Ask You A Question? - What Happens When You Die?

Main Focus: This life is not the end. We must choose our eternal destination.
Power Verse: “And just as each person is destined to die once and after that comes judgement.” -Hebrews 9:27
Whatchagaddaknow: “I’m Gonna Live Forever!”
Scripture: John’s Vision of Heaven (Revelation 21-22)

Summary:

Death is a scary subject to most kids. Many have had relatives die and have seen and felt the sadness and pain that is associated with death. Add to that the factor of just “not knowing” all the details about when or how we will die, and it is easy to understand why this subject is so uncomfortable for people.

When this life is over, it is only the beginning. There are two real destinations for us after we die:
Heaven or Hell. These are real places, not just ideas or fictional stories. The only thing that determines where we will go when we die is whether or not we accept Jesus Christ’s death on the cross as payment for our sins.

It is a clear choice. We must all make this choice and live our lives for God to the best of our ability if we are to make Heaven our eternal home.

Main Focus: God can use the “bad” things in our lives to bring about His plan!
Power Verse: “And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them.” -Romans 8:28
Whatchagaddaknow: “God Can Use The Bad Things For My Good!”
Scripture: Joseph Gives God The Glory (Genesis 50)

Summary:

Joseph was a godly man. He followed God’s plan for his life. Yet, Joseph had many setbacks in life. In fact, some of the worst things that could happen to a person happened to Joseph.

He was mistreated and hated by his brothers, who sold him into slavery. He was falsely accused by Potiphar’s wife. He was then thrown into prison for a crime he didn’t commit. He was forgotten by a man who was supposed to help him get out of prison and was left to rot for two whole years.

So why did such BAD things happen to such a GOOD person? In this lesson, we will tackle that question and learn how God can use the bad things that happen in life and turn them around to accomplish His GOOD plan.

Series Info:

We all have had BIG questions that we have wondered about the answers to from time to time. When you are a kid, there are questions that you never seem to find the answer to. The good news is that God has answers to all of our questions.

This curriculum series is designed to help answer a few of the toughest questions about faith. Each lesson tackles a question that many children struggle with. Kids need to know that it is okay to ask questions. We should not be intimidated by their questions. Instead, we should take those questions straight to the source for all answers - God’s Word.
