The kompa world has lost one of its enduring voices. Dieudonné Larose, a cornerstone of Haitian popular music for over five decades, has died.

Born in Cabaret, Haiti, Larose grew up immersed in rhythm and melody, eventually becoming a defining figure in the golden era of kompa. His smooth, soulful vocals and powerful stage presence made him a standout in legendary groups including Shoogar Combo, DP Express, and especially Missile 727, where he helped bring Haitian music to international stages, particularly through the vibrant Haitian community in Montreal.

Larose’s catalogue is filled with timeless tracks — songs like “Mandela”, “Accident”, “Ti Fi” and many more that became staples at parties, weddings, and family gatherings across the diaspora. His music blended deep Haitian roots with Afro-Caribbean energy, creating a sound that felt both nostalgic and timeless.

Beyond his recordings, Dieudonné was known for his humility, generosity, and love for the culture that shaped him. He remained a beloved figure for generations of fans who grew up singing his lyrics and dancing to his melodies.

L’Union Suite extends our deepest condolences to his family, friends, bandmates, and every listener whose heart he touched through his voice.
Rest in power, Maestro. Your music will live forever in the soul of Ayiti. 🙏🏾🕊️
