🌸 A Prophet Has Been Called 🌸

Today marks a sacred and historic moment for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. President Dallin H. Oaks has been sustained and set apart as the 18th President and Prophet of the Church.

As sisters in the Relief Society, we rejoice in the divine order and inspired process by which the Lord continues to guide His Church. Through revelation and priesthood authority, we witness again that Jesus Christ leads His people.

We extend our love and prayers to President Oaks, his counselors — President Henry B. Eyring and President D. Todd Christofferson — and to President Jeffrey R. Holland, who now serves as President of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles.

May we sustain them with faith, follow their counsel with trust, and draw closer to the Savior through their inspired leadership. đź’›

President Dallin H. Oaks was announced today as the 18th President and Prophet of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. The announcement was made during a live broadcast from Salt Lake City, Utah. President Oaks was sustained and set apart today, October 14, 2025.

In The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, the prophet is chosen through a divinely inspired process. When the prophet passes away, the First Presidency is dissolved, and the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles, led by the longest-serving Apostle, assumes leadership, confirming the new Prophet through revelation and priesthood authority.

President Oaks, 93, succeeds President Russell M. Nelson, who passed away September 27, 2025.

The new leader of a global faith of more than 17 million members has called President Henry B. Eyring, 92, and President D. Todd Christofferson, 80 to serve with him as first and second counselors in the First Presidency, the Church’s highest governing body.

President Oaks also announced that President Jeffrey R. Holland, 84, will be the President of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles. https://newsroom.churchofjesuschrist.org/article/president-oaks-new-first-presidency

🌿 Relief Society: Step by Step – Church Security Resources 🌿

Sisters, as we gather each week to worship, serve, and strengthen one another, it’s important that we also take time to understand how to help keep our meetinghouses and members safe. The Church has recently shared a “Step by Step” Security Training Video to help us be more prepared and aware in case of emergencies.

🕊️ Our goal isn’t fear—it’s faith in action.
Being prepared allows us to respond with calm confidence and Christlike care if something unexpected happens. The Savior taught, “If ye are prepared ye shall not fear” (D&C 38:30). This training helps us do just that—prepare with wisdom, peace, and unity.

📞 Important Numbers to Know:
• In an emergency, call 911 immediately.
• For urgent Church-related security matters: 1-801-240-2661 or toll-free (844) 537-7000 (ask for local leader security support).
• For non-urgent concerns or training requests, you can message the Church Security Office directly through the provided link.

📚 Additional Resources:
• Security Guidelines for Church Meetings and Events
• Warning Signs for Potentially Violent Behavior
• Class Handout: Security Training for Church Meetings and Events

Let’s take a few moments to watch the video together or on our own this week and reflect on how we can be more mindful, aware, and ready to assist if a need ever arises.

❤️ Relief Society sisters are often the first to notice when something feels off—our spiritual sensitivity and nurturing instincts are gifts. Let’s use them to protect and uplift our wards and communities.

Step by step, we can create both a physically and spiritually safe space where all feel the love of Christ.

With humble hearts and deep gratitude, we pause to reflect on the inspiring life and legacy of President Russell M. Nelson. His faith, vision, and love touched lives in ways we cannot fully measure, yet we feel them in our daily walk.

President Nelson taught us what it means to see with spiritual eyes, to reach upward in prayer, and to anchor our lives in revelation. He reminded us that every person is a beloved daughter of God, and that our Heavenly Father’s love is the ultimate source of strength and hope.

In his ministry, he showed us that true discipleship calls for courage, dedication, and tender compassion. We remember his steady example of loving service, his tireless efforts to bring souls unto Christ, and his unwavering trust in the Lord’s timing.

As sisters in Relief Society, we commit anew to walk in the light of his teachings — to lift one another, to strengthen faith, and to carry forward the torch of hope, charity, and unity. May we honor him by magnifying our own callings and by loving each woman we serve as dearly as he loved us.

President Nelson, we thank you. May your words, your faith, and your life continue to guide and inspire us as we consecrate our hearts in the cause of discipleship.

With love and gratitude,

Sisters, President Russell M. Nelson gave us a gentle but powerful reminder for our day:

“Civility and decency seem to have disappeared during this era of polarization and passionate disagreements. Vulgarity, faultfinding, and evil speaking of others are all too common. Too many pundits, politicians, entertainers, and other influencers throw insults constantly. I am greatly concerned that so many people seem to believe that it is completely acceptable to condemn, malign, and vilify anyone who does not agree with them. Many seem eager to damage another’s reputation with pathetic and pithy barbs!
Anger never persuades. Hostility builds no one. Contention never leads to inspired solutions.”

As Relief Society sisters, we are covenant women of peace. The Savior has shown us that true discipleship means replacing contention with compassion and anger with Christlike love.

When we choose patience, kindness, and charity—even in times of disagreement—we invite the Spirit and strengthen Zion. President Nelson’s words are a call to be peacemakers in our homes, our ward family, and in the world.

đź’› How have you felt the Spirit guide you to respond with love instead of contention?

President Nelson’s words stay with me: “The joy we feel has little to do with the circumstances of our lives and everything to do with the focus of our lives.”Life will always bring trials—but if I fix my gaze on Christ, I can still feel peace and joy every day.

One of my favorite teachings from President Russell M. Nelson is his reminder that “The joy we feel has little to do with the circumstances of our lives and everything to do with the focus of our lives.”

It shifts everything—teaching me that joy is not about what happens to me, but where my heart and focus are set. 🤍

A Gentle Reminder: Peacemaking Begins With Each of Us

Sisters, I just watched this powerful video—“Peacemaking Starts With YOU”—and felt compelled to share it with our Relief Society family.

In a world that sometimes feels restless, we are called to be peacemakers, starting with our own hearts and relationships. Whether it’s offering a kind word, extending grace, or simply choosing understanding over judgment, our small acts can ignite Heavenly healing.

This isn’t just about being nice—it’s about radiating Christlike love in tangible ways. As we seek peace in our homes, our meetings, and our ministering interactions, we become living witnesses of His peace to those around us.

Take a moment today to watch the video—and let’s pray for the grace to be soft places for others to land.

“Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called the children of God.” — Matthew 5:9

Let’s choose peace, dear sisters. Let’s be the light that draws other lights closer.

With love and hope,
Love S. Fontanez ❤️
