This is a weekend of many changes:

First of all, our summer priest has arrived. Father Jomat John will be with us until the end of the summer. He is a member of the Carmelites of Mary Immaculate who have been with us for so many years. Born in India, he now serves as missionary in Ghana, working closely with Father Jomi who is with us the last two summers. We look forward to his sharing his spirituality with us.

Next, we say goodbye (or as he likes it, "see you later") to Father Fred. He has been our spiritual leader for seven and a half years. During his time, we have benefited from his spirituality, devotion to saints, and his sense of beauty that made our worship space so much more conducive to prayer. We offer our prayers and wish him well as he begins his new ministry at Our Lady of Snows in Floral Park, the parish which he called home during his formative years.

Finally, we say hello to our new pastor, Father Kevin McBrien who is swapping parishes with Father Fred. He has been the pastor of Our Lady of Snows for twelve years. I know him to be a kind priest with a great sense of humor. He loves being with the people he serves. We look forward his leadership and ministry among us.

Each pastor brings his own gifts and spirituality to his parish. I'm sure that all of us remember certain pastors for their particular gifts and how they brought us closer to Jesus and his Church. So, let's look forward to the future with joy and hope and more importantly share our own time, talent and treasure with our local community

Special event with Fr. Chris Alar.
Do you have a family member, friend, or other loved one that you would like
to bring back to church and the mass?

On Wednesday, November 9 at 7 PM, Sacred Heart is having a special event with Fr. Chris Alar of the Marians of the Immaculate Conception based in Stockbridge, MA to discuss this topic.

Fr. Chris is the Provincial Superior of the Marians, an author of several books, and hosts a weekly EWTN show and the “Explaining the Faith” series which discusses various topics of our Faith.

This virtual event via Zoom is part of Fr. Chris’s evangelization effort where Fr. Chris will meet with us to discuss and answer our questions and talk about how we can bring our loved ones back to the church and the faith.

As you know, Governor Hochul has lifted the indoor mask mandate. This includes churches. The Diocese of Brooklyn likewise is lifting the instructions that everyone wear masks in Church or other parish facilities. Therefore, it is NOT REQUIRED that you wear a mask in Church. You are encouraged to do so if it makes you feel safer. It is your choice.

FORMED, produced by the Augustine Institute, has come to Sacred Heart and is available without charge to all parishioners. All that is needed to visit the website is Internet access and an e-mail account.

FORMED is an on-line resource for adult and youth faith formation, prayer, sacramental preparation, and so much more. Recent presentations include videos on saints, prayer, spiritual development for men and women, daily Scripture reflections, things of interest for children, and many other topics.

The app can be downloaded very easily to your computer or ROKU and to your cell phone or iPad so that you can enjoy the presentations wherever you happen to be.

To register on FORMED:
1) Go to FORMED.org/signup
2) Enter our Zip Code, 11385 and select Sacred Heart
3) Enter your name and email address.

REGISTRATION for the 2021-2022 Faith Formation School Year is now OPEN.

We are excited to invite new and returning students to register with us for the Sacred Heart Faith Formation program beginning this fall!

We will be remote for the upcoming school year.

Go to our website www.sacredheartreligion.org and Click on Registrations and Fees. All registration forms are available for download on the Registrations and Fees page or under the FORMS tab. Registration CLOSES on the 23rd of September.

Jointly with our catechists, we are planning opportunities for our Faith Formation families to grow in faith through the return of the online My Catholic Faith Delivered (MCFD) program.

In addition, we will see the return of grade-level class masses, as well as other opportunities to grow in your faith. The dates for class masses are on the calendar which can be found on our website.

As a reminder, any child preparing for the sacraments of Penance, First Holy Communion and Confirmation, as required by the Diocese, must have at least two years of consecutive religious education in order to receive the sacraments.
