On April 9, 1917, the Jewish Welfare Board was founded to support young Jewish men joining the military as the U.S. entered World War I. Today, JWB Jewish Chaplains Council® continues to bring Jewish life to Jews in the military, their families, and veterans. In the same way, Jewish Community Centers of North America (JCCs)—the organization that grew from JWB’s roots—supports nearly 150 JCCs and JCC Camps in creating and nurturing Jewish life in communities across this continent. This is a fitting moment to recognize more than a century devoted to enriching Jewish life and to honor the Jewish men and women who serve in today’s U.S. military.

Pesach is also known as Zman Cheruteinu (זְמַן חֵרוּתֵנוּ) the “Season of Our Freedom”. As we gather to celebrate, we are reminded, yet again, that freedom ain’t free. We hold dear and cherish all those who fight for our freedom; all those who may have their Seder far from home, family and friends; all those family members who will add one extra prayer to their Seder for the protection and safe return of our service members, their loved ones.

“If I believe this calling is worth giving my life to, then I have to be willing to talk about it.”

Ch. Rabbi Scott Shalom Klein has added to his duties and is recruiting Army chaplains. He says “Serving as a Chaplain at Fort Bragg is about more than just a uniform; it is about standing with Soldiers in their hardest moments and ensuring they never have to walk alone. We have a responsibility to make sure the spiritual and moral strength of our Army remains in good hands for years to come.”

Thinking of becoming a chaplain in the U.S. armed forces?

Let us know!

Chaplain Scott Klein reflects on his ECAR experiences in sharing his Army story to help reach potential future chaplains.

Happy to announce a new partnership, that is possible thanks to the generous support from the Marcus Foundation.
JWB has secured funds to support 5 teens from Jewish military families who would like to participate in the JCC Maccabi games in Kansas City.

These teens will have the opportunity to join 3,000 Jewish teen athletes from around the globe at the world’s largest Jewish youth sporting event. The JCC Maccabi Games offer Olympic-style sports competitions, including opening and closing ceremonies; travel; community service; social and cultural events; and opportunities to make friends and memories to last a lifetime.

Please help us find 5 Jewish teens from Jewish military families that will experience the magic of JCC Maccabi for FREE!
