Inventor’s Spotlight

Sarah E. Goode is an inspiration because she showed that big ideas can come from everyday problems. Sarah Goode owned a furniture store and noticed that many families in small apartments did not have enough space for beds. She invented a special bed that could fold up into a cabinet, helping people save space in their homes. Even though it was very difficult for Black women to get patents at that time, she worked hard and became one of the first Black women in the United States to receive a patent. Her story teaches us that when we see a problem, we can use creativity and determination to invent a solution.
