The Scouts of Cub Pack 237 and Boy Scout Troop 237 - Brooklyn, New York continued their remembrance of Memorial Day by decorating the graves in The Green-Wood Cemetery of those men and women that have served our country. The Scouts placed over 850 flags. In addition to the Scouts adhering to the promise that we will never forget those that serve our country and were willing to make the ultimate sacrifice, the Scouts learned about the Battle of Brooklyn, the Civil Way, and the continuous service of those that are willing to serve our country from its founding until today, especially Eagle Scout and Major Michael J Carroll who is serving our country in Kuwait. Our last stop was to pay our respect to Eagle Scout and Navy veteran Joseph Giamboi who serves as an inspiration to this generation of Scouts. Pack 237 and Troop 237 honor and remembers all those that served out Country and made the ultimate sacrifice to give us the freedoms that we are blessed to have and enjoy.

Hi Pack 237:
It is with profound sadness that we inform you of the passing of our beloved Webelos Leader, Fred Shanks, on January 17, 2022.
Mr. Shanks was a dedicated Scout that has served in Pack 237 for almost 20 years.
The Pack has been truly blessed to have such a dedicated and tireless leader that has impacted the lives of the member and leaders of Pack 237.
Pope Francis has stated that it is important that those that lead youth be an example of integrity, coherence of right judgement and impartiality, patience and the capacity for respect... and how important it is for a leader to be an example of faith.

I am sure you will agree that Mr. Shanks was the epitome of these words.

Please note that we are cancelling the Pack meeting this Friday, January 21, so that the leader may attend the services for Mr. Shanks.

The services for Mr. Shanks are as follows:
Friday, January 21, 2022 from 2 pm to 5 pm and 7 pm to 9 pm at M.J. Smith Sons, 255 Ninth Street, Brooklyn, NY 11215.
Saturday, January 22, 2022 at 11 am, a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Holy Name of Jesus Church.

Please remember Mr. Shanks, Jerri and their whole family in your prays at this time.

Based upon our promise to "Never Forget" not even a constant cold rain could keep Pack 237, Troop 237, the Windsor Terrace American Legion family and the McFadden Brothers American Legion Post from decorating the memorial plaques around Holy Name of Jesus and decorating graves at Greenwood Cemetery this Memorial Day Weekend. Pack 237 is very thankful for all the scouts, leaders and parents that came out today in weather that was not fit for fish nor fowl. Pack 237 was especially honored that Eagle Scout and Captin Michael Carroll, US Army Reserve, who joined us in this solemn responsibility and spoke with the scouts about why we honor our fallen heroes. The group learned about service from the Revolution War until the current conflicts where our fellow citizens comtinue to volunteer to make the ultimate sacrifice so that we can all be free. The day ended with a final stop to pay our respects to Eagle Scout and Navy veteran Joseph Giamboi forever a member of the Pack 237 family.

Pack 237 remembers this Memorial Day 2020. While for the first time in over 50 years the Scouts of Troop and Pack 237 were not able to decorate graves at Greenwood Cemetery, we still remember and give prayerful thanks to all of those and their families that have made the ultimate sacrifice to provide us the freedom and rights that we are so blessed to have as Americans. We especially remember Eagle Scout Captain John McKenna IV who was killed in action in Iraq. Please join us in offer our thanks to all that have served and all that still serve to keep us free.
