The Glory and Praise of Easter
Let the praises of the Lord rise among us!
There is a lot to praise God for daily but when it comes to Easter it reminds us even more to let our praises rise even higher. We must praise God for what He did for us on Calvary. For the shame and suffering He bore to save us, to give us eternal life and a seat of honor. The death and resurrection of Jesus Christ not only ushers us into heaven but also brings with it healing, love, peace, hope, power, and the Holy Spirit.
I still find it daunting that God should pay such a high price for wretched sinners like us. The more I watch the news, listen to social media, the darkness of sin becomes ever darker. The sinful nature of man becomes more and more evident. What could God have seen in us. When He created man, He said it was very good – really! Yes, really! We were made in His own image, in the likeness of Him. His love for us began at creation and though we sinned and have brought Him sorrow and grief His love for us never failed.
“'For I know the plans I have for you,' declares the Lord, 'plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you a hope and a future. '” — Jeremiah 29:11. This verse gives me hope. Hope that whatever happens in my life God is with me and not with me only but with all who trust in Him. God’s love for us is relentless. He sent His only Son from heaven to dwell among sinful men. He suffered abuse, insults, spat upon, mocked, and then killed in the most undignified way all to redeem us from the penalty of sin and then give us a hope and a future.
The price paid was hefty, so we should not take Easter for granted, celebrating it with chocolate and big family dinners, instead we must reflect deeply on the reason for the season. It pains my heart when I ask children what Easter means to them and their reply is Chocolate and Easter Bunny. As Christians let us work steadfast in sharing the gospel of Jesus Christ so that the glory of the Lord will rise among us.
