Last week, our own Tobi Mojeed-Balogun, stopped by St. Ann’s Summer Camp in the Morrisania section of the Bronx to do a read aloud with the campers. Tobi read “A Seed Is Sleepy” by Dianna Hutts Aston and talked about plants and the environment. St. Ann’s Summer Camp provides summer enrichment to about 60 campers from 1st to 6th grade that focuses on improving literacy, learning life skills, social-emotional learning and having fun!

Thank to you to the Rev. Deacon. Wendy Cañas, St. Ann’s Episcopal Church, and the counselors and volunteers of the St. Ann’s Summer Camp for the amazing work in the South Bronx. Episcopal Charities is proud to support programs like St. Ann’s Summer Camp through NYC and the Hudson Valley.

Recently, we met with our Westchester County program leaders to learn more about the trends they are seeing on the ground. These regional gatherings provide a meaningful opportunity to come together, build connections, and support our program partners.

We recently had the opportunity to visit the Blossom Respite Café and Gardens at St. John’s Pleasantville, a warm and inclusive program supporting adults with early-stage dementia and their caregivers.

Through horticulture therapy, creative engagement, movement, and meditation, Blossom creates space for dignity, connection, and moments of joy.

The visit was a powerful example of how community-centered care, creativity, and thoughtful support can meet the needs of the community—and how our Innovation Grant can help bring meaningful ideas to life.

We had such a great time on the Terrace at Inside Park at St. Barts gathering with those who are invested in contributing to a more equitable and sustainable food system. We loved hearing from our friends at Glynwood, CHOPP, and Davoren Farm.

Episcopal Charities program representatives from the Bronx, Yonkers, Manhattan, and Mount Kisco attended the EC Sustainability Institute on Volunteer Management on May 14 at Diocesan House. EC’s Judy Douglas and Tobi Mojeed-Balogun led the group through ideas for encouraging and sustaining their programs’ most valuable assets: volunteers!
