Today, July 9 is the 21st anniversary of the formation of the African Union, which replaced the Organization of African Unity (OAU) that was disbanded that date. The OAU had been established on May 25, 1963 in Addis Ababa by 32 signatory governments. May 25th is celebrated each year as African Liberation Day.
