Dearest Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
Grace and peace to you in the name of our Lord, Jesus Christ!
It is with a mix of gratitude, reflection, and faith that I write to share an important update about my own journey and our shared ministry with the Madison Square Park Congregation of Ecclesia Ministries of New York.
After much prayer and discernment, I have decided that it’s time for me to retire from my role as Pastor of the Madison Square Park Congregation effective December 29, 2024. This decision was not made lightly, as serving in this congregation has been one of the greatest blessings and honours of my life.
Through the years, we have grown together in faith, walked through seasons of joy and challenge, while being sprinkled with some sadness and loss along the way, and at the same time, we experiencied God’s steadfast love and faithfulness.
I first became an Ecclesia Associate in October 2009 and was named Pastor of the Madison Square Park Congregation in September 2011.
I could not be more thankful for your prayers, your trust, and your partnership in this ministry to the vulnerable in our community, some of you, from the beginning of Ecclesia NYC some 17 years ago.
As I prepare to step aside, I am pleased to announce that the Deacons of the Episcopal Diocese of New York will be assuming coverage of this ministry and relocating to St. Mark’s in the Bowery, bolstering Ecclesia’s presence on the Lower Eastside. Deacon Denise LaVetty, who has worked with me for nearly 13 years, knows the ethos of this ministry and I totally trust in her abilities to lead this ministry into the future.
On December 29th, we will celebrate our final Sunday Eucharist. I invite each of you to join us one last time at the Church of the Transfiguration for the service at 2:00 PM, where the Great Thanksgiving will be celebrated and The Rev. Dr. Clyde Kuemmerle, Executive Director of Ecclesia Ministries of New York will preside over the Rite for Ending of a Pastoral Relationship.
To all our affiliated clergy, I invite you to con-celebrate this final Eucharist. Please bring an alb/robe and a white stole, along with those members of your community who have participated with us by making sandwiches and preparing lunches.
I look forward to seeing you all on the First Sunday after Christmas for a more formal good-bye. Please feel free to share this post..
Faithfully,
The Rev. Séamus Campbell
Pastor, Madison Square Park Congregation of Ecclesia Ministries of New York
