On Friday, we gathered with GreenFaith, Covenant For Our Future, Hands Off NYC, The Interfaith Center of New York, the Kairos Center, and many other partners for a multifaith pilgrimage for climate and immigration justice. From Federal Plaza, across the bridge into Brooklyn, we marched, sang, and prayed. People from all walks of life joined along the way.
We heard powerful words from Ravi Ragbir, Rev. Winnie Varghese, Rabbi Abby Stein, and Ahmad Perez, on the need to resist attempts to divide us. We heard about the need to restore our commitment to the hungry, the poor and the disenfranchised, at the policy level, by repealing HR-1. We were lifted by the songs of Taina Asili and SKOR. We held vigil at the Metropolitan Detention Center and heard knocks on the windows from detainees who could hear us inside. We closed the day breaking bread with our hosts and siblings in struggle, the organizers at UPROSE.
For many, this was the start of a new coalition; for our partners, it was a continuation of long-standing work. The moment was sacred. We are more committed than ever to walk together, uplift our collective liberation, and fight to repeal HR-1.
